Banana Fermentation Blast Leaves 2 Workers Injured in Sin el-Fil
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةTwo Egyptian workers were lightly injured late Tuesday in an explosion that resulted from the explosion of carbide in a banana fermentation factory in Sin el-Fil, the state-run National News Agency reported.
NNA said the blast at the vegetable market went off when the workers added the normal dose of carbide, which is one of the most commonly used ripening agent for fruits.
The factory is owned by a man from Abi Nasr family, the agency said without giving further details about him.
It added that the explosion was accompanied by the burning of waste along Beirut River that abuts the vegetable market.
It was not clear if the two incidents were related.
Its funny that calcium carbide, which was the chemical used to ripen the bananas is a known carcinogen. Hence, it is illegal all over the world...except Lebanon of course. The joke is, the media totally ignored this fact.
