Telecom Committee: If Our State was Capable, Israel Wouldn't have Dared to Violate Our Sovereignty

The parliamentary telecommunications committee denounced on Monday the Israeli espionage stations along the border as violation of Lebanon's sovereignty, pointing out that it is happening despite the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 and the presence of the UNIFIL.

“The ongoing Israeli aggression took a new direction in terms of the used techniques,” head of the committee MP Hassan Fadlallah told reporters after chairing a two-hour meeting at the parliament.

He slammed the Israeli violation, calling on all the Lebanese to “confront it with all the possible means.”

“If we had a capable state and less political disputes, Israel wouldn't have dared to carry out any violation,” Fadllallah added.

Lebanon is expected to file a complaint to the United Nations Security Council over the issue in light of the report issued by the parliamentary telecommunications committee.

Speaker Nabih Berri revealed on Wednesday that Israel had set up a number of espionage stations along its border with Lebanon, starting from al-Naqoura passing by Khayyam all the way to Sheba.

The biggest espionage station is allegedly installed in al-Abbad and Jan al-Alam areas, which are located near the U.N. demarcated Blue line.

Fadlallah rejected to declare the details of the committee's meeting, adding that the “matter is dangerous and harms all the Lebanese on all levels.”

He stressed that “the matter is urgent and exceptional and the cabinet should convene to take the necessary measures.”

On Saturday, caretaker Defense Minister Fayez Ghosn condemned the recently installed Israeli spying stations along its border with Lebanon, considering that the Lebanese state should swiftly resolve the matter.

The caretaker Minister renewed calls on the Lebanese to “unite and set aside their differences to confront the Israeli plot against Lebanon.”

I don't know of this fadlallah is related to the (now deceased) cleric that once lead Hezbollah. The brothers + nephews/nieces had stopped talking to him in the 80s because they were against his islamisation of Lebanon not to mention the Hezbollah terrorist ideology. That proves there are good Shia, most of the fadlallah that hated the cleric are exiled...

I know this first hand as they used to hang out with my siblings.

all they want is to convene the cabinet to pass a few laws under the false pretenses of this issue.

All these parasite talk and time lost talking about Israel control stations... Who cares about Israel????

We have the Assadists hellbent on creating strife in lebanon, we have no government, no legal parliament. Our oil file is on hold and our debt through the roof and all the country is worrying about israeli espionage issues?

This is completely stupid. ISRAEL IS OUR PROBLEM NUMBER 5. After Assadists(1), HA's weapons(2), public debt(3), and Qaeda (4). Stop focusing on m...f..ing Israel.

Thumb irus_da_virus 11 November 2013, 16:29

But I am thought that Hizballa's weapons are meant to protect us from such Israeli aggression. It seems that this so called deterrent force doesn't work anymore, makes you wonder whether these weapons are still needed.

Thumb lebanon_first 11 November 2013, 16:55

No Southern. Israeli is not the only ennemy. You absolutely refuse to see assadists as ennemy. Why? You think Assad is a friend to lebanon?

Please help me out. Previous articles and comments on this subject have categorically stated that the 'espionage station' are built on the Israeli side of the border, so how exactly is it a violation of Lebanon's sovereignty. Where in Resolution 1701 does it forbid Israel from building on its own side of the border? Where do it enroach into UNIFIL territory?
By the way don't you know that Israel has spy sattelites that can read a newspaper on the streets of Beirut, Baalbek or Marj-ayoun, so why exactly does it need these 'espionage stations' on the border?

What is most alarming is that HA has reached a stage of full control of our governmental departments and institutions to a degree that it no longer needs to use its parties mouthpiece to escalate, downplay or wage a propoganda war. Our government is under HA control, Our Army is under HA control and it will remain so until the Mother of all trials is over. Meanwhile Aoun is given a lolly pop and allowed to play with some of the toys.

I am of the opinion that Israel is the "root" of Lebanon's problems with direct implications on the main regional players. So one "may" chose to leap to the conclusion that Israel is our only enemy. I think that if tomorrow an overall Middle Eastern solution is reached vis-a-vis the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, the deeply rooted conflict that exists amongst the Arabs and their respective religious associations will still exist.

Is there a nation capable of electronic surveillance of its potential enemies that doesn't utilize that capability? Every commenter denounces and describes Israel as the enemy, then complains because that enemy watches lebanon for any hostile moves. What would you have them do? Ignore heszbollah and its threats? Its absurd for a weak country without an army or airforce to threaten its powerful neighbor for building on its own territory. All you're doing is giving them a casus belli. Better to keep quiet than whine like a child.
