Report: 30 Nahr al-Bared Islamists to be Released Soon

The government is planning to release a group of 30 Islamists who have been held since the Nahr al-Bared clashes in 2007 without prosecution, An Nahar daily reported Tuesday.

The newspaper said that the move comes after the authorities released over the weekend Sheikh Nabil Rhim who was transported to the northern port city of Tripoli by a vehicle sent to him by Premier Najib Miqati.

Preparations are underway to release the 30 Islamists soon for lack of evidence on their involvement in the fighting between the Fatah al-Islam terrorist group and the Lebanese army at the northern Palestinian refugee camp of Nahr al-Bared.

Minister of Economy and Trade Nicolas Nahhas told Voice of Lebanon radio station (100.5) that by releasing the Islamists, the cabinet stresses that “people shouldn’t remain in prison without prosecution if there is no evidence against them.”

So weird, so complicated, a complete failure in our system.
I believe that people should not be arrested indefinitely without trials.
Miqati is playing the sectarian game to it's full extent, by presenting himself as a guardian for Sunnis in Tripoli, in preparation for the next elections against Hariri.
This sait, the failure to try these people can only be due to 2 things
1- not enough evidence (as they claim), which means they should've been released since long time. And they were not released due to political pressure
2- not enough will to try them due to political pressures, which is even worse that 1.
In both case it's a failure from the state, and now Miqati is taking full advantage from it.

if these guys are innocent, then fine. but if they were found in the camp when the army managed to get in, then these guys must pay. they terrorised the camp, plotted and carried out major operations and lebanese army lives were lost. only fighters were left in the camp, which means that if they were found inside, they are not innocent. and that is enough for me to keep these guys roasting in prison. to all the families of soldiers/officers who lost their lives, i am terribly sorry that some politicians do these things for political gains. whoever they are. the army officers who died are martyrs in the true sense of the word. lebanon has a strange way of calling anyone who dies doing anything a martyr. killed while walking down the street when a bomb goes of? according to lebanon, you're a martyr... "innocent bystander" is the term for this. a martyr is someone who willingly dies for a belief or a cause. and that's what these soldiers/officers did. we must respect these sacrifices.

This is very confusing...
At the time of the nahr el bared events, I remember H Nasrallah telling us that an attack on the camp is a "red line" (this guy has so many red lines).
On another hand, the M8 people always accuse M14 to have salafists as a threat to Hezbollah.
M14, always claimed that those salafist were trained and controled by Syria.
Now, we have Mikati who wants to release the guys....???
How come they've had no trial since now?
How come one of the first decisions of Mikati is to release those thugs??
Truly, that's beyond me...

Leb_atheist. The army comitted many crimes in the camp as well. They stole money, furniture, gold, kitchen white goods and anything they could get their hands on, deliberatly shot at civilians, harassed women in the most obnoxious way, as well as causing serious sabotage to the camp AFTER the terrorists already had been defeated such as bombing houses that hadnt already been destroyed, spray painting grafitti on the wall, "pooping" inside peoples houses etc. Why did they do this? Because lebanon is a banana country and its the law of the jungle that rules here. This is why nobody will be arrested in the STL, this is why amal and hezb were allowed to do what they did on may 7th and why a premier could be murderered with the help of inside security personel. Neither march14 nor march8 has what it takes to turn lebanon in to a good place to live in.
