Hale: We Will Continue to Confront Iran and Hizbullah's 'Terrorist Acts'
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةU.S. Ambassador to Lebanon David Hale stressed on Monday that his country will continue to confront Iran and its allies, including Hizbullah, “terrorist activities.”
“As we proceed with negotiations about Iran’s nuclear program, the United States will not ignore Iran’s destabilizing actions in the region,” Hale said after meeting with Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Miqati at the Grand Serail.
He pointed out that the U.S. will continue to cooperate with Lebanon “to ensure that the enforcement of the international sanctions remains rigorous.”
On Sunday a landmark nuclear deal was reached between Iran and world powers, which curb parts of Iran's nuclear program in return for some relief from international sanctions.
Hale told reporters that the main goal is “preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and to protecting our allies, especially in a region such as the Middle East.”
He called on the Lebanese foes to abide by the Baabda Declaration, the dissociation policy and the U.N. Security Council resolutions 1701 and 1559.
The Baabda Declaration was unanimously adopted during a national dialogue session in June 2012. It calls for Lebanon to disassociate itself from regional crises, most notably the one in Syria.
Concerning the crisis of Syrian refugees on Lebanese territories, the U.S. diplomat noted that the International Support Group will continue to address the impact of the Syrian conflict on Lebanon and “help Lebanon's “wise policy of dissociation from that conflict.”
He reiterated that the U.S. remains committed to a “stable, independent, prosperous, and sovereign Lebanon.”
The support group was inaugurated in New York in September on the sidelines of the 68th session of the General Assembly. It undertook to work together to mobilize support for the sovereignty and state institutions of Lebanon and to highlight and promote efforts to assist the country where it was most affected by the Syrian crisis, including in respect of strengthening the capacity of the Lebanese Armed Forces, assistance to refugees, and structural and financial support to the government.
the problem with m8 guys is they still do not get it!
the deal with iran stipulates the dismantling of hizbushaitan in Lebann and the withdrawal of Iranian /Iraqi/hizbushaitan from Syria.
if that does not happen soon, the deal is off.
the terrorism days of this filthy extremist Iranian militia have to come to an end soon otherwise iran will pay a higher price than before the deal :)
I hope the m8 guys are starting to understand :)
I read all your posts and you sing the same song darling. It is you that doesn't get it. Iran got what it deserved in this deal, the right to nuclear energy. Iran will never abandon its brothers and sisters in Lebanon. The truth is, the United States needs Iran, Syria, and Lebanon to complete its war on terrorism. The terrorists are getting cornered and once the time is right then the plug will be pulled on KSA and the rest of the so-called "kingdoms" in the gulf. You are about 5 steps behind Geha darling.
OK.
let us place our bets and we will see who is right :)
do you not understand all the comments being said like the one above? and all the others? obviously not. all you understand is what you are told by your turbaned masters :)
each day there are comments advising all are waiting for the next steps that iran should be taking, and you do not understand it still :)
I do not know one turbaned "master" darling. All it takes is a little intelligence to see where this going. It's an easy bet for me. You are the one limited by narrow thinking darling.
There are no "tricks" to be learned from Hizbollah Mr Phoenix. They are the resistance against Zionism and terrorism. Thru are the real defenders of Lebanon. Mr Hale can make such statements to please opposition publicly but the US knows very well they need Hizbollah in the war against terrorism even yo the dismay of Israel.
@the1phoenix
Nicely framed, summed up and presented plea for exercising rationality amongst us Lebanese. Hopefully the future will bring better times to our country.
Naharnet editors cannot tolerate opposing views. You might as well shut down Naharnet instead of deleting posts.
@Southern : They are not a Lebanese resistance. They are the "Islamic Resistance in Lebanon".
They will only be admitted as a "Lebanese Resistance" when Christians and Sunnis will be part of it !
Your partners, Aounies are not even fighting with you. They support you but send you to war to die on your own while they play playstation at home and watch you on OTV ...
There is no resistance as long as the resistance is not inclusive of all Lebanon for purely Lebanese interest. This resistance created amid smoking mirrors in intended to serve Iran's and Shiia interests only. It is an Iranian proxy army doing Iran's dirty jobs in the region while dividing Lebanon to achieve their own ambitions in the region.
Restricting Iran from having a nuclear bomb is the greatest news ever. As great as knowing that HA terrorists/boys are dying everyday in Syria. Don't complicate politics, it's seriously very simple. The iranian people are hungry, the sanctions have really been strong on them. Khaminei had to give in at the expense of the nuclear bomb et point a la ligne.
