Suleiman: We Musn't Ruin Ties with Saudi Arabia by Making Baseless Accusations against it

President Michel Suleiman slammed on Wednesday the criticism directed against Saudi Arabia by some officials in Lebanon, rejecting meddling in the affairs of other countries.
He said: “We should not ruin Lebanon's relations with Saudi Arabia by making baseless accusations against it.”
He made his remark during the opening of a conference entitled, “Dialogue: Truth and Democracy,” held in Jbeil.
“Historic ties with a country such as Saudi Arabia should not be ruined through these accusations, especially when it comes to Syria,” declared the president in reference to statements made by Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and other March 8 camp officials.
“Our enemy is making victory after victory while we are embroiled in our own disputes,” he lamented.
Suleiman therefore demanded that the purpose of arms in Lebanon and the meaning of martyrdom be defined.
“The stability of countries rests on the national contract that its people abide by,” he continued.
He also stressed the importance of honest dialogue in Lebanon that would help assert Lebanon's sovereignty and its ties with other countries.
“The Lebanese people should build a society based on dialogue,” he stated.
Nasrallah on Tuesday accused Saudi Arabia of being behind the deadly bombings that targeted the Iranian embassy in southern Beirut on November 19.
“We believe the statement in which the Abdullah Azzam Brigades claimed responsibility for the attack on the Iranian embassy, because it is a well-known group and its emir is Saudi and it is linked to the Saudi intelligence,” Nasrallah explained.
He elaborated: “The Iranian embassy bombing has to do with targeting Iran by those who consider it to be an enemy since 1979 and by those who teach at their institutes that it is an enemy.”
“The bombing has to do with the Saudi anger against Iran in the region,” he added.

come on mowaten... how can you say that HA does not take orders when Nasrallah himself said that?? now mind you I am not arguing if Mustaqbal takes orders from KSA or anybody else.. but when someone openly says that he does not use his education or his mind, but resorts to the faqih and what he says.. how can that possibly be not taking orders???

I did. And a loose translation of what I understood is:
Whenever we take any decision. Or walk down any path. Or enter any battle. We do not refer to our minds. Or our scientific or political minded people. Or our educational standards. Or. Or. Or. We refer to our faqihs. Our elders. And our references. This was our discipline to our imam.(Ali or Husain). And this is our discipline even after his death by abiding to the imam khamini.
Did I miss anything? Am I misunderstanding anything? It is pretty plain to understand that prior to any decision they (HA) take we refer to khamini for the final word. Approval or disapproval. Please correct me if I missed anything.

seems like he had a very enlightening trip to saudi last month, since he came back he became their biggest fans. must have been the buzzing cultural life down there that made an impression on him.

FT do you honestly believe that Hezbollah could or would integrate in to the army under any president without starting a war? How do you expect this president to demacrate borders when Syria refuses to do so? Is sheeba lebanese or Syrian? Although we all know that it is lebanese, the borders and the Syrians say different. Half the inhabitants say different. The president is neither M8 nor M14. I think every lebanese person should be standing up for the president because he genuinely has lebanons best interest at heart. That is why he is being attacked. Fancy Franjieh saying that he told Assad that he knew sulieman would stab them in the back and that the only reason he became president was because Syria allowed it. We all stand up for him at all times not only when he says something we agree with.

FT : as long as Hezb's lifeline depends entirely on Iran, no one, and certainly not Nasrallah, can claim it's a "lebanese" organisation "independent" of foreign influence.
Hassan cannot claim like he lied yesterday that he is not "influenced" and controlled by Iran.
If you cut Iranian flow of money and weapons, Hezbollah will collapse financially in a couple of months or take over the country to survive economically.
I agree with you that M14 are not visionnaries but you're wrong to believe Aoun or Hassan Nasrallah can build a better future for lebanon.
Regarding this president, I would choose him 1000 times over filth like Lahoud imposed to us by Hezbollah and Syria. And I would flee the country before seeing someone like Aoun take his place.
I prefer a speechless president than someone who sold his soul, values and beliefs for a glimpse of power.

@FT : I never claimed M14 wasn't "influenced". Hassan Nasrallah lied on TV yesterday saying they are not influenced when they are more influenced than any other party.
I disagree with you that M14 are unfit to rule. They have achieved infinitely more for this country than any M8 party. Hezbollah has never brought ANYTHING to lebanon ! And the areas you mention that M14 doesn't control are areas polluted by Assad loyalist and infiltrated terrorists.
Come on ... you;re smarter than that than to make such claims !
I know you don't appreciate this president and agree he hasn't done much. However, I can tell you what he did not do : his family didn't become millionaires overnight. He's not corrupted like Lahoud. He doesn't use his influence for personal gains. he does not answer like a stray dog to Syria. He doesn't use his circle of criminals to conduct or cover crimes across the country... And he's not full of himself like Aoun !
