Suleiman: Laqqis' Assassination Part of Israeli Plot to Fuel Sectarian Disputes

President Michel Suleiman condemned on Wednesday the assassination of Hizbullah official Hassan Laqqis, saying it is part of an Israeli plot against Lebanon.

He said in a statement: “The assassination is a new chapter in Israel's attempts to create sectarian strife and target civil peace.”

He therefore called on the Lebanese people to remain diligent and “be aware of the attempts to create strife” in the country.

The president also reiterated the need to distance Lebanon from “the disputes of others in order to maintain peace and stability.”

Suleiman requested from acting Prosecutor General Samir Hammoud to “exert all efforts to uncover the assailants and bring them to justice.”

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Miqati later held talks with caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel on the investigations in the assassination, urging that efforts be intensified to uncover the assailants.

“The assassination is aimed at creating a new strife in Lebanon and harming security and stability,” he remarked.

“The judiciary will take its course to reveal the perpetrators,” he added, while offering his condolences to the Hizbullah leadership and Laqqis' family.

Hizbullah official Hajj Hassan Hollo al-Laqqis was assassinated overnight near his residence in Hadath in Beirut's southern suburbs.

“Around 12 a.m. overnight Laqqis was assassinated near his house in Sainte Thérèse neighborhood in Hadath while he was on his way back from his work,” a statement issued by Hizbullah's press office said.

It accused Israel of carrying out the assassination, revealing that Laqqis “was subjected several times and in several areas to failed assassination attempts.”

lol ice-oushee, i guess you cracked the case and brilliantly demonstrated not only Laqqis' guilt but also, and most importantly, israel's innocence.

did u crack it movaten ? did u solve moghnieh killing ? Or u're just repeating what u taught by almanar and iranian arabic-speaking channel ?

Thumb popeye 04 December 2013, 16:45

It seems the iranian poster and his hizb cracked the case by immediately accusing Israel. They also accused Israel of the twin bombings in Tripoli. They accused Israel of Harriri's murder. They accused KSA of the Iranian Embassy bombing. They accuse without evidence. Propaganda machine at full work. BTW, mowaten, you have accused half the posters on this blog of being fake accounts. In my opinion, you are the only fake here.

Thumb _mowaten_ 04 December 2013, 17:33

deny it as much as you want, with as many aliases as you want.
i am certain that a few posters made up dozens and dozens of accounts to post their propaganda under as many different names as possible.

when a series of them pop out and all comment in succession with the same style, the same silly kind of names and avatars (casper, liberty, ice-man, ala-din, popeye, rawr etc) i can't help but think they're one and the same.

naharnet should do something about it, show partial IPs for instance.

if for nothing else this execution of the guy responsible for Al Qusair massacres shows clearly how exposed is hizbushaitan.
this shows how close they got to him to shoot him.
with all their might, is that their security?
I foresee many more executions and bombings based on this level of security :)

Thumb _mowaten_ 04 December 2013, 17:30

yes, the doorman probably committed massacres in qusayr, he should be ex3ecuted too. that's what we normal people think.

Thumb benzona 04 December 2013, 17:55

come on guys, let's not fool ourselves.israel never lies openly, when they are guilty of something they simply don't comment it. so, i don't believe israel is behind this terrorist's assassination. it's either an internal job, or a relative of on of his victims simply looking for payback.

Missing peace 04 December 2013, 21:27

lol

Benzona you are the one fooling yourself if you think israel doesn't lie openly. What a stupid statement. Almost everything they say are lies. Just like hezb el shaytan. This HA terrorist may he burn in hell was probably killed in syria but that doesnt mean that israel "never lies openly", they lie lie lie lie lie as often as they breathe. Israel and Hezb el shaytan are both enemies of lebanon.

@Southern : that's the difference between a state where you let JUSTICE take its course and a state where you let armed militias judge a crime without any once of proof.

The STL (whether you approve of it or not is irrelevant) has taken 8 years to gather evidence and pronounce accusations.

On the same day of the crime, without any evidence whatsoever, Hezbollah accuses Israel like Iran did for the embassy bombing.

Why doesn't Hezbollah retaliate then ?

You cannot let such people take power because they behave exactly like the Syrian and Iranian regime judging crimes without even collecting evidence or putting people on trial. This is extremely dangerous because if you let things happen their way, they can basically accuse and eliminate any enemy for any nonsense they invent and get away with it.

This is how dictators work !

Thumb FlameCatcher 04 December 2013, 18:10

@FT : It's not a secret Israel is hostile towards Hezbollah (not Lebanon).

However, before pronouncing any accusation, collect evidence because chances are this hezbollah terrorist was assassinated by opposing syrian forces.

Until you collect evidence, shut up or risk being ridiculed when it turns out it wasn't Israel just like the Iranian embassy wasn't Israel either (They accused Israel from the first minute)!

Stop it already with this false Zionist rhetoric. You have much more ennemies than Israel including millions of Lebanese who do not want to live in a country with Hezbollah weapons.

Thumb ex-fpm 04 December 2013, 18:55

@souther, what do you know about the evidence the STL to claim they don't have evidence. The trial has not even started and here you are talking about lack of evidence. Your comments are laughable.

Missing peace 04 December 2013, 19:07

"der spiegel and a canadian TV announced the evidence through the STL staff, a telephone call! that's all!"

waw! and you base your propaganda on this! you sincerely believe that this is the only evidence STL has to accuse them?
the evidence will be brought DURING the tribunal not before... so you cannot pretend to know what the STL has or hasn't... just your pure assumptions and hezbi propaganda to back you up! LOL
you are sure laughable....

oh! and the STL is still waiting for the evidence hezbollah has failed to give them accusing israel! LOL
