Syria Opposition Blames Regime for Beirut Bombing
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةA key member of the Syrian opposition has accused the Damascus regime and its allies Iran and Hizbullah of being behind a bomb attack that killed a Lebanese politician in Beirut.
The powerful car bomb in the heart of the Lebanese capital on Friday killed seven people, including Mohammed Shatah, a leading critic of Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime.
"The murderers... are the same ones that kill and continue to kill Syrians in Qusayr, Qalamoun, Ghouta, Aleppo, Homs and Idlib," said the Syrian National Council (SNC), the largest member of the umbrella National Coalition opposition grouping.
"They are undoubtedly the alliance between the Iranian and Syrian regimes and their agents in Lebanon led by the sectarian and fanatical militia Hizbullah," the SNC said in a statement issued overnight.
Hizbullah has sent troops to back the Assad regime in its war with rebels who have been fighting to oust his regime since a deadly crackdown on democracy protests in 2011.
"This bloody alliance... proves every day that it is the main source of terrorism and extremism which threatens the security and stability of the region," said the SNC.
Shatah, 62, was killed in Friday's blast as he headed to a meeting of Lebanon's Western-backed March 14 coalition that has supported the Sunni Muslim-led rebels in Syria.
Lebanese state media said more than 50 people were wounded and over 10 buildings badly damaged in the bombing, which officials said was caused by 50-60 kilograms (110-132 pounds) of explosives.
March 14 implied Damascus and Hizbullah were behind the attack without naming them, saying "the criminal is the same, he who is thirsty for the blood of Syrians... he and his Lebanese allies".
Hizbullah said the attack was aimed at destroying "national unity".
The Syrian conflict has cost an estimated 126,000 lives and displaced millions of people since it broke out in March 2011.
The FSA-Al Qaeda terrorists belong to the same ideology and terrorist organization as the group that committed 9/11, the London bombings, the Madrid bombings, the Nahr El Bared attacks, etc.
But they want to point fingers al.
you forgot that for decades your beloved regime killed many lebanese using booby trapped cars, financed and harboured many islamist terrorists groups, used them in lebanon ... and the list is long...
but suddenly they stopped? LOL
i think we can believe the syrian opposition, because they are very neutral and balanced. And their teams in lebanon which are very well implanted swiftly conducted all analysis of samples and video recordings to reach this conclusion.
since obviously they have no interests in accusing the syrian regime, this can only be the ultimate proof that geha was so patiently waiting for to begin accusing.
Oh and Bashar is neutral and balanced ? He struggles to spread democracy in the region and respect of human rights :) So does Hassan Nasrallah who also wears a hijab to be on equal footing with his idea of liberated women.
He just removed the word "islamic" from the Kezbollah flag just to prove how neutral he is. He recruited christians and sunnis to build a neutral "resistance" to protect Lebanon from "ennemies" at the request of "all Lebanese".
Karim you know very well that FSA is being fought by both the regime and the Islamist.
u're right pierro, FSA is just SAA that defected coz they didn't want to torture and kill their citizens, they're fought by the regime with its shia lackeys, ISIS and even the kurds...
Sagh, don't lie. No religious community in the middle east have been civilized. We have had many christian fanatics. The shiites have had and currently have some of the worlds worst fanatics. Armed alawites are ruthless. Do not sit here and lie. You know very well the attrocities that have taken place at the hands of the religious communities in the middle east.
I know one thing is for sure, that before the war started in Syria, we had ONE Syrian hand that did all the killing in Lebanon, that was the blood-drenched hand of the Al Assad regime. Now after the war started in Syria, we have two hands, maybe three, maybe more. We now still have that blood-drenched Al Assad hand, but now we also have the Syrian opposition hand coupled with the Takfiri hand. Like it is now being said, Lebanon has become a Postal Box for rival warring factions in Syria, and even more, for those supporting them, like Iran, the KSA and Qatar. As for Israel, being the opportunist state it is, I am sure it will not skimp on any opportunity that manifests itself. The sad thing is however, the deep divisions that still rattles us, that alone on its own merit renders us truly open and most vulnerable to our enemies' and pundits' every wish, desire and caprice.
sagh i will tell you once more that none of us believe your lies about being a christian. you are too filthy in your speech to be a part of this honorable religion. it is clear that you grew up in either tartus or dahye.
(1). Sagh, thank you for your post. Do you remember Bush junior's plan A, when he declared his Road Map to Peace? Good. That followed his own Dad's foray into Iraq dubbed Gulf War 1. Wasn't Saddam Hussein a brutal dictator, but albeit his silly decision to enter and invade neighboring Kuwait at the "behest" of the US, wasn't his Iraqi people living in relative peace and comfort? same could be said of other dictators like Qaddafi, Husni Moubarak (the gentler dictator), Tunis' Bin Ali etc...You see, dictators have a way of committing silly mistakes that turn out to be absolutely instrumental into their demise, Bachar Al Assad being one of them.
(2). Sagh. Is Bachar my friend? hell no, no way, I have enough memories of how he blood drenched my country, my Lebanese people, but I must admit this to you, that Bachar does not fight you on religious grounds, at least this is my perception of him, Bachar instead fights you on ideological grounds, but all the same, he is an implacable foe if you ever have to face off to him. yes, I have seen what the Takfiris are doing in Syria, and this forum has proven just how many times I took strenuous positions against them, I even went as far as wishing good fortune to Bachar, imagine, this coming from an LFer to a man I detest as much as I do the Takfiris. Then to the KSA, I see it as another entity of dictatorship, rest assured about that, just like Iran, but then, to each his day, some stones will not be left unturned, it's just a question of time, and when.
natreenak inta w bashar to civilize us josh bustany aka Ali Salman Hussein of Tartus? go learn how to bottle pepsi properly in your country before talking about lebanese. the average bum in beirut has more culture in his little finger than the highest scholar of damascus. don't forget this, desert dweller.
Sagh, josh bustany, you win the prize of the most sstupid comment for 2013. Congratulatins, it's a 5-year stay vacation at one of the baath most cultured prisons. Torture, rape, and all the brutality you can imagine. Of course as the icing of the cake, it will all be civilized because we all know how civilized the baath is!!!! Just to be clear, im being sarcastic. You strike me as stupid enough to believe what i wrote is true.
No sane person would write what you wrote. You must be sick, you can't believe any of that. Even assadist alawi supporters will brag about their crimes openly when arguing with an anti-assad lebanese. Whatever your trying to achieve with such stupid comments, you will fail. Nobody believes you, not even those who support the current assad for whatever reason. It is like alqaida saying they are the most civilized. Give us a break would you!
sagh il watee how is the weather in latakia? you are lucky we allow your kind to even post on this website, since the idea of freedom of speech has never been a part of the cannibal ba'ath culture.
phoenix, u're another victim of the bogeyman/takfiri strategy of HA and its iranian employer. Using the israeli pretext, they became a state within the state. Now with the takfiri excuse, they'll take over the country. Didn't u watch Paula yesterday ? Didn't u hear geagea, sami gemayel and chidiac? Are those stupid or takfiris ?
Like Shatah explained once, M8/M14 is not a normal political fight for the power, it is a fight between those wanting a free multicultural lebanon and the ones ready to sell lebanon to Syria/Iran.
Like Sami said yesterday, while some are celebrating Xmas, others are preparing bombs to kill them.
Cedre, rest assured that I heard them all, but you see Cedre, Takfiris where it concerns me are in Syria fighting a dirty war, with methods even dirtier than the Al Assad regime's. Now to come over to Lebanon, why would I fall for anyone's trap? I believe that I have sufficient experience not to step into such a predicament. Lest you have forgotten my dear Cedre, my being an LFer has not been diluted a drop, but I was and I remain a moderate person, always consistent in not following anyone when they make mistakes, at least when I feel they do. What happened yesterday with Al Chatah (Allah yer7amoh) has incensed me to my depths, me too, I have mys suspicions, but in my own elucidation of matters that concern my country or other, I would rather not jump to conclusions, at least not yet. Have a good weekend.
actionman it is very simple - sagh is an alawite of tartus masquerading as a lebanese christian. of course it is instantly obvious to a lebanese that this snake is not christian or lebanese.
Wow the finger pointing. Isn't Hizbullah fanatical? Isn't Assad fanatical? Isn't Israel fanatical? Isn't Nusra fanatical? How about Da3sh? How about Fatah?
