The Special Tribunal for Lebanon confirmed on Monday that it has received Lebanon’s share of the 2013 budget from the Lebanese government.

“The full sum of 29,386,609 euros, amounting to 49 percent of the tribunal's budget, was transferred to the tribunal's bank account this morning by the Lebanese government,” it announced in a statement.

“I thank the Lebanese government for respecting once again Lebanon’s international obligation to fund the Tribunal”, STL Registrar Daryl Mundis said.

The start of trial in the Ayyash et al. case is scheduled for January 16, 2014.

The Finance Ministry had announced on Friday that Lebanon provided its share of the budget of the STL.

On December 9, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Miqati revealed that Lebanon had paid its share of the funding for 2014.

He stated at the time that the Finance Ministry was capable of providing the funds at installments.
