Two Syrian abductees were released on Wednesday in the northern Bekaa town of Shaat, after al-Meqdad clan mediated with the kidnappers.

"Abdul Latif and Firas Meqdad were freed after the Meqdad clan mediated with the abductors,” the state-run National News Agency reported.

NNA detailed on the incident: “One of the abductees' relatives filed a complaint at a police station in (the southern Beirut neighborhood of) Dahieh, saying he was contacted through the phone of one of the kidnapped men and was asked to pay USD 10,000 in ransom.”

Abdul Latif and Firas Meqdad were abducted three days ago.

The Meqdad clan is known for its illegal military wing and has been involved in several kidnapping incidents of Turkish and Syrian nationals to avenge the abduction of family member Hassan.

Many of the group's victims are members of the Free Syrian Army.

what we hate, ya mowaten, is that the meqdad's played a big part in destroying the summer tourism season of 2012 and not a single one of them paid the price for it. the only ones who paid the price were people who actually work and lost money due to these actions, it seems this does not include the constituents of HA who dont pay taxes nor electricity.

it's called the rule of law, FT. You FPM'ers pretend to advocate civil society, so yes it matters that the meqdad's run a mafioso-esque crime ring in the bekaa3.

oh now we2fet 3al meqdads? dont make me laugh, dont you think the takfiris plnating bombs hurt the tourism more? the battles in tripoli? the US threats on syria which made many people fear lebanon would be hit too and left? what about assir? did he pay?
please dont use such pathetic arguments to justify your sectarian hatred, including the bills fairytale, because less people in akkar pay them then in dahiyeh, official stats.

the meqdads were victim of sectarian kidnappings, one of their family members got arrested by rebels in syria just because of his name, he was a simple bank employee in a syrian branch.
they took matters in their own hands by kidnapping syrians affiliated to rebels, which is condemnable in itself, but never forget the difference between the aggressor and the one who does what is needed to defend his family.

The meqdad criminal branch of the family must disappear.
