Progressive Socialist Party chief MP Walid Jumblat hailed on Monday former Prime Minister Saad Hariri's recent stands on local and regional developments.

He lauded to the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa website the former premier's “refusal to drag the Sunni sect towards the conflict between Hizbullah and al-Qaida.”

He noted that this position “reflects his sound reasoning and sense of national responsibility, especially during these critical local and regional circumstances.”

Hariri's position “is important and stands in contrast against the sit-ins in front the Defense Ministry demanding the release of a suspect who is still going through investigations.”

He made his last remark in reference to the arrest of Sheikh Omar al-Atrash, who is reportedly involved in recent bomb attacks in Lebanon.

A number of Muslim scholars and clerics who hail from the Bekaa staged on Sunday a protest to condemn the arrest.

On Friday, al-Akhbar newspaper broke the news about Atrash's arrest, saying he is “suspected of offering refuge to individuals with alleged links to the Abdullah Azzam Brigades, al-Nusra Front and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant,” which are groups that have been linked to bombings in the country.

Hariri warned on Saturday the Lebanese in general and the Sunni sect in particular against supporting “suspicious” calls that urge them to involve the country in “rejected and condemned wars.”

“The Lebanese and the Sunni sect reject to be part of any war in Lebanon or the region between Hizbullah and al-Qaida,” Hariri said in a statement issued by his press office.

He stressed that “they also reject threats to target civilians in any region in Lebanon amid a demented war (in the region) and its dangerous repercussions on the the national and Islamic unity.”

Hariri's statement comes a day after a group suspected of links to al-Qaida warned that all areas of Lebanon where Hizbullah operates are "legitimate targets" for attack, telling Sunnis to avoid them.

the thing to be hailed here is admitting that there is al Qaeda finally (and their funders of course)

Correct Mr. Jumblat, but rest assured that most of the people of Lebanon do not want to be dragged into a civil war, otherwise had this been the opposite then even the Red Army won't be capable to stop this war. Salute Mr. Hariri if you wish Sir, there's nothing wrong in that, me too, I respect and admire Saad Hariri's moderate character, he is playing a huge role these days at keeping people within their senses, but Mr. Jumblatt, kindly salute the perseverance, patience, wisdom and resilience of the Lebanese people, most of which are the very ones who by and large are the keepers of the peace. Thank you to the people, they remain to this day the unsung heroes of Lebanon.

Phoenix; your post is talk for talks sake. It's not the oscars and I don't think jumblat needs to go through a long list of thanks you's, he was merely thanking hariri for for his stand at a particular juncture.

And unlike you I am not that impressed with the lebanese people, they are after all the people who voted in our politicians and they are responcible for not holding any of them accountable.

HA will never give up their weapons. There is a reason for massing so many weapons and doing what they are doing. Its to take over Lebanon piece by piece bit by bit. Paralyze state institutions to the point where an order to the army to preserve order cannot be given and then they will attempt to take over. Its another adventure that will cost them a lot.

That's why we need the French weapons delivered as soon as possible..

Southern, I will avoid insults when you learn how to write a sentence and give up your job as a propagandist for the Iranian militia… that is momo's job and he is better at it.

Again I ask you… Why doesn't Nasrallah jump out of his hole and present all the evidence he was waving around at the trial?

Thumb general_puppet 27 January 2014, 23:32

Southern, still no respond to my question… thats OK, I guess that answer is a bit above your pay scale. But I will help you, all the evidence in that specific terrorist act point to directly at your beloved terrorist militia. Your Devine leader Nasrallah spends all his time hiding under ground in fear and making televised speeches every time he gets new orders from his master the Ayatollah. Nasrallah spouting BS and waving a hand full of paper pointing at the usual scapegoat "the Israelis did it", is nothing more than a bad soap opera.
