Phalange Ministers to Resign before Vote of Confidence if 'Dangerous Confusion' Not Resolved

The Phalange party warned late Saturday that the ministers representing it in Prime Minister Tammam Salam's government will resign before a parliamentary vote of confidence if the policy statement wasn't amended.
Following a more than four-hour meeting held at its headquarters in Saifi, the Phalange politburo said: “The resignation of the ministers are linked to an official and serious solution to the dangerous confusion on the role of the state and its authority in deciding the fate” of the nation.
“The ministers will officially resign before the discussion of the statement in case the authority of the state wasn't discussed,” it added.
The meeting was chaired by Phalange leader Amin Gemayel who cut his visit abroad short to participate in the decision-making of the divided politburo.
The three Phalange ministers - Ramzi Greij, Sejaan Qazzi and Alain Hakim – and Minister Ashraf Rifi, who represents al-Mustaqbal movement in the cabinet have voiced reservations on the resistance clause of the policy statement.
The document states: "By the virtue of the state's responsibility to preserve Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity, the government stresses the state's duty and efforts to liberate the Shebaa Farms, the Kfarshouba Hills and the occupied part of Ghajar (village) through all legitimate means, while stressing the right of Lebanese citizens to resist Israeli occupation, repel its aggressions and regain the occupied land.”
It was adopted by the cabinet late Friday after almost one month of discussions and a deadlock on the resistance clause.
Speaker Nabih Berri called on parliament to convene on March 19-20 to discuss the policy statement.

Mustakbal should resign as well. They have lost sight of what is important. Hezb is a cancer that must be rooted out. It is spreading and needs radical decisions and thinking ahead beyond the nose. Some like FPM constantly live in the now and today. They can't see past their noses.

It's never good and bad, but bad and less bad, civil war and concessions... But we can be proud of kataeb, without them, geagea and other patriots, Lebanon would be a syro-iranian mandate, with Assad bombing sunni areas...

How about if the Syrian republic or Iran occupied lebanon, would the resistance clause apply .

Hopefully Phalange will force a clear declaration that only the state makes decisions and only the LAF should be armed.

As far as this issue in the article is concerned, I agree with the Kataeb's stand and applaud it! The ministerial statement as it stands will be the country road to hell!

Soooo... can someone elaborate what's wrong with the policy statement:

I am a kataeb supporter. But kataeb are wrong to resign.
Most posters on this site are expats who dont care about day to day lebanon. From the comfy comfort of their sydney, montreal or dubai, they want to put lebanon in a state of war, for the sake of principles, which albeit are 100% true, are not implementable at the moment without a massive civil war and a huge injection of money.

the shia people will keep on voting for HA. whatever cow boy actions HA does. For the simple reason that HA keeps them dependant on them by paying them medical care and primary education.
The "world" will not intervene. Noone cares.
We have to accept that 1/3 of our country likes and accepts the "cow boy actions" of HA. We either split the country or accept them and accomodate.

of course M8ers do not want a state but rather the law of hezbis to be enforced...
