Prime Minister Tammam Salam warned on Monday that the security situation in Lebanon would not improve if the presidential elections were not held.

In remarks to employees and reporters at a ceremony held at the Grand Serail, Salam said: “Making this achievement would open a new page to the nation and comfort the people.”

“The situation in the country will not become better and promising if the presidential polls were not held,” he said.

Salam told the government employees and journalists that his mission was short but it was essential to elect a new head of state to “revive” the country.

The cabinet received parliament's vote of confidence last week. Its main mission is to prepare for the polls as President Michel Suleiman's six-year term comes to a close.

Asked whether the government will deal with the security situation at a session it will hold on Thursday, Salam said: “Security is our concern and it is on the agenda of the entire country.”

“Preparations are underway to (implement) a security plan based on the (decisions) reached at a meeting held last week” at Baabda Palace, he added.

During the security meeting chaired by Suleiman last Wednesday, the country's top officials ordered the competent ministries and security forces to intensify cooperation and take the necessary measures to restore calm in tense areas across Lebanon.

We need the end of the sectarian election system. No religion in politics.

Question: is it fair to assume that most of Lebanese political parties are focused on the religion of their voters? subsequently the religion determines automatically during their life span the voter choice? is it true that most of peacful and safe countries, individuals are free to choose whenever and whatever political party they deem to trust?

We need a government that will take strict measure to restore peace stop these snipers, arrest the fanatics with explosives laden SUV's, and any other fanatic considered to be a threat to Lebanese.
in order to do that we need a government that has ball , is functional and will take the strict decisions and will give firm orders to our LFA to act accordingly
Mr. prime minister and members of government let's see if you will have the balls and the courage to implement those security measures

The problem is that the armed thugs you are talking about are employees of the parties who control the Government. The disease is from within, not a question of balls.

Although the timely election of a new president is of prime importance I am at a loss of understanding how the election will solve the security problems of the country. The president has no effective powers. said power is in the hands of the prime minister.... So the PM must start acting now
