A Syrian thief was jailed on Sunday after Interior Minister Marwan Charbel’s convoy chased him in the area of Sin el-Fil, the National News Agency reported.

NNA said that 18-year-old Syrian Fahed Shehadeh al-Barek snatched the purse of a woman named Layla Youssef Ghanem, who began crying out for help.

Charbel’s convoy, which was in the area at the time of the incident, chased the man and arrested him.

The Syrian was taken to a police station in Sin el-Fil and the bag was returned to Ghanem.

Return the Syrian to Assad

I love how Naharnet loves to highlight the fact that the thief was a Syrian. It reminds me of watching Fox News when they would always mention a guy's race when reporting a crime.

This is really a sad thing.. our ISF are so incapable that the minister himself has to chase the bad guys

Start making history and EXECUTE the law. You Kill and you get hanged, You steal and you pay the price. Apply the law immediately before he escapes jail or they receive a telephone call from the Syrian regime.

To the post by "syrian" above:

Since he is NOT a Lebanese citizen, it is very important that Naharnet or any other news agency to mention his nationality, otherwise they would be implicitly tarnishing Lebanese nationals reputation and leaving details out of the story, thereby leaving the article open for interpretation. Had Naharnet mentioned that he is a member of Lebanese party X or Y, then I would agree with your concern, but when he's a non-Lebanese citizen, they should mention it. By the way, when a non-national commits a crime in ANY country (USA included since you mentioned FOX News), all news agencies in that country report the nationality of the criminal at the beginning of the story.

Finally, I doubt that you would have reacted the same way had he been Kuwaiti or Egyptian or Turkish for example.

@ syrian: This is how it works all around the world, they always give info as much as possible...If you are syrian, then I of course we undertsand your useless argument...If you are not Syrian, your comment is just non-sense

...if only they capture all the syrians that have stolen from our country! On a name and shame basis...would be amazing! and funny ;)

Media around the world should start mentioning that the murderer, the thief, drug dealer etc was lebanese just like you guys do. The lebanese are well known criminals around the world yet media dont incite against you like you do.

Eliyas who said they dont? You are completely mistaken and what omar said is correct. I do not live in Europe and when reading the news, the nationality of a person who commits a crime is always mentionned whether lebanese or syrian or european or american. So why dont u get off your f****** high horse and say something that shows you know what you're talking about instead of stating what u say is a fact that you pulled right out of your ass
