Suleiman Urges MPs to Avert Dangers Posed by Presidential Vacuum
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةPresident Michel Suleiman urged the parliament on Friday to act in accordance with the Constitution to avert the dangers that could arise from the failure to elect a new head of state by May 25.
Suleiman made his plea in a message he sent to parliament via Speaker Nabih Berri and in accordance with the authorities given to him by clause 10 of article 53 of the Constitution.
He said the lawmakers should act in conformity with the laws to meet Constitutional deadlines “to avoid the dangers that could result from the failure to elect a president for the Lebanese Republic by May 25.”
Parliament has so far failed to elect a new president over differences between the March 8 and 14 alliances.
Most of the March 8 camp's MPs have boycotted four rounds of elections over their call for an agreement on a consensual president and their rejection of the candidacy of their foe Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea.
A fifth round of polls is scheduled to be held next Thursday, two days before the expiry of Suleiman's six-year tenure.
There are fears that the vacuum in the country's top Christian post would affect Lebanon's power-sharing agreement under which the president should be a Maronite, the premier a Sunni and the speaker a Shiite.

Mr president
the problem will be solved when they find a prince or king or president to hold the hand of the new president and walk with him to the parliament
What do we call a good-for-nothing two-faced corrupt president-by-parachute who, for 6 lonnnnnnng years, has proven that he has a vacuum-filled ball between his shoulders and a tongue as long as my long schlong?
I think there comes the time when the people will have to test their will against that of the politicians. The politicians are doing everything to hit at the others' teeth all the while knowing that this will have serious consequences on the nation and the people. What do the politicians care, they're awash with cash and property assets, sinfully so. So if the void is created by next week, our economy already on the brink of total collapse will get even worse and worst to come too. But the people who nowadays have to struggle past a myriad of problems, who will look after them, the politicians? Think everyone. If on the 24th no solution is found, then let us the people go to Baabda by the thousands to ask the president to stay, by sheer numbers, we can. What is the nation without a people? Let us make it heard, our WILL against the mafia's.
Alfinik, I am only taking time to compliment what everyone now knows: That you are one of the many profiles used by Bani Maarouf who has transcended into several profiles now posting as Ibinbatrakrahi. That this character has no character but that of a complete fool, that for as long as I post, you or one of your lurid siblings will appear to make of themselves just as you do, to paint yourselves as complete and unadulterated fools. Does anyone bother to reply to you guys? Does anyone thumb you up but yourselves through your home-made thumbing machine? Well Alfinik, or the unofficial forum Gabonese Grey parrot mascot and the many siblings that Bani created, I am afraid that you may have to remain for a long time here, and you know why? Because I will.
Alfinik, again, you copied this post of mine from another thread and pasted it here in this thread. If for anything, you are proving how irrelevant you've become, oh wait, I meant how your creator has become, you know, Mama Bani Maarouf or now Ibinbatrakrahi. Well, he sure created you, but just like him, has forgotten to add the brains to your skull. And by the way, your home-made thumbing machine is quite busy today, good try, good try, I fed my camels with some green grass today, I see the results have done you some good. Interesting family yours is, lol.
Do not go to Baabda go in the hundred of thousands to the homes and offices of all the Christian members of parliament who do not attend the parliament and make them come to vote or NEVER AGAIN VOTE FOR THEM. These are Christians betraying their community and their country and their constitution
Since when a vote has to be consensual? Frangie vs Sarkis won byone vote or should I say half a vote and was still elected
Go and teach a lesson to all the Christian traitors to their community
