Report: Paris Asks for Copy of Nasrallah Speech on 'Power Triangle'

The French embassy in Beirut has reportedly asked for a copy of a speech made last week by Hizbullah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, who accused Paris of suggesting a “power triangle” in Lebanon.

An Nahar newspaper said Monday that the mission contacted Hizbullah official Ammar al-Moussawi to ask for the copy of the official document after Nasrallah mentioned the division of power among Sunnis, Shiites and Christians.

The Hizbullah secretary-general said on Friday that the March 14 alliance accuses his party and AMAL movement of paralyzing the presidential elections because they are seeking to create the power triangle for considering the Taef accord no longer applicable.

The Taef agreement has divided power equally among Muslims and Christians.

Nasrallah accused a delegation of French officials of suggesting the issue during a visit to Tehran. But the Iranians rejected it, he said.

“We haven't thought about it, we haven't asked for it and we haven't sought for it,” he said.

Officials, who were not named, expected the French foreign ministry to issue a statement to clarify the matter.

Despite Nasrallah's denial, his ally Free Patriotic Movement MP Michel Aoun said last month that “stability in Lebanon is based on an integrated triangle between his party, Hizbullah and al-Mustaqbal Movement.”

But the Maronite Patriarchate has allegedly rejected all proposals that don't abide by the constitution and the power-sharing accord between Muslims and Christians.

Following talks with Foreign Minister Jebran Bassil on Monday, French Ambassador Patrice Paoli said he “would not respond” to Nasrallah.

“We back the Lebanese Constitution and state institutions and expect the Lebanese to elect a president in accordance with the Taef,” he said from Bustros Palace.

The Iranians were the ones who suggest the changes to the power sharing half and half formula back in 2007. They told that to Kouchner's envoy to Tehran Cousseran when some Lebanese MPs were meeting in St Cloud. Nasrallah just has a great imagination and he thinks we have no memory.

The leader of the terror party distorts the truth, facts, and history. He wants us to believe that France wants to diminish the Christian role in Lebanon. Yes, very believable and very credible.

France is becoming increasingly secular and non-religious. What's so difficult to believe about it?

Missing coolmec 09 June 2014, 10:01

karim
France has always been secular since the separation of state and church has been in effect for decades. we cannot say the same about Lebanon as it is still very sectarian based and Lebanese keep clinging to their sects instead of supporting the state The big example is HA

Missing .karim 09 June 2014, 10:12

Coolmec, that doesn't contradict what I said.

If these rats have anything to do with governing Lebanon, we will slide back to the dark ages and look like Yemen, Jordan and Syria--

Missing .karim 09 June 2014, 09:45

Well, you're Al Qaeda cannibal jihadist brethren are already fighting for control of Syria. If you dont want the country to look like that, then why do you support leaders who are allied to them?

Thumb sophia_angle 09 June 2014, 09:41

nasrallah-harriri-aoun these are the acting power now on the ground, these 3 united make a shield to protect lebanon & apply the taef, no one said to change constitution which of course needs to be tuned because it was done during the war to cancel the president's acting role it was deliberately done against aoun at that time.

Missing coolmec 09 June 2014, 10:06

Sophia
so what you're saying is that the rule has changed in Lebanon behind Aoun's back and without his knowledge?? So you're telling me that Aoun is the defender and the bearer of Lebanese?? so why is he boycotting the presidential election and causing state paralysis?
Oh I know he is protecting the Lebanese.
You're pathetic

Thumb kanaanljdid 09 June 2014, 10:59

You just pointed out the real n°1 problem of Lebanon

Nasrallah is a lying bastard obviously and this is the french way of telling people so delicately : "Show us the transcript, if you dare, so we can expose your lies".

He accuses France of suggesting the idea of tripartite power sharing just so he can make the "pill" easier to swallow.

Nasrallah uses lies to indocrinate his sheep. He also indoctrinated Aoun's Ghanam... time for a BBQ !

Sayed Hassan loves to accuse people routinely, yet has problems facing up to accusations against him. The same can be said of Aoun, that is called intolerance. That alone will deprive them of ruling the nation, and people know that too.

Wolf Rear, so predictable. I throw a banana and there you come. So long for talking of predictions. You're boring to be honest. Greet your mum for me will you, and the multiple siblings too.

Nahar: "MP Michel Aoun said last month that “stability in Lebanon is based on an integrated triangle between his party, Hizbullah and al-Mustaqbal Movement." - Fact

flamethrower: distortion of facts and sectarian hate.

I'm amazed at the level of discourse. My 5-year old can have better arguments...

Thumb canadianpaul 09 June 2014, 14:55

You're good at personal insults, I'll give you that. LOL. Otherwise, brain-dead.

Thumb FlameCatcher 09 June 2014, 17:06

They want a transcript of the public pile of bullshit Nasrallah vommited on TV.

It's an elegant way to tell the world Nasrallah is full of shit !

Thumb FlameCatcher 10 June 2014, 00:09

It's not up to France to prove they didn't say it. It's up to Hezbollah to prove they did. And they just asked for a copy of the speech.

Lack of proof doesn't mean you can make lies up like that.

Talking of proof, you have proof Hezbollah is behind Hariri's assassination and you chose to ignore it. Just so you can keep the lies going ...

France just stabbed the christians in their back. What Aoun is going to say about HIzballah negotiation with France on power sharing (power triangle) behind Aoun's back. The only way France can correct their mistake by claiming hizballah a terrorist group or the french ambassador must be kicked out of lebanon. Shame on you France .......Hassan you can deny as many times as you want, but your ugly face and your hate to christians is as clear as crystal

Thumb cedre 10 June 2014, 01:31

ME christians know France, UK or Us dont care about them, just realpolitik...They were already sold to hafez, now to khamenei...
