Mansour: Sadr’s Disappearance Will Be Addressed as Soon as Matters Return to Normal in Libya
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةForeign Minister Adnan Mansour stated on Monday that the toppling of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi’s rule will allow Lebanon to determine the fate of Imam Moussa al-Sadr and his companions who vanished on August 31, 1978.
The minister added: “Lebanon has never stopped searching for Sadr and his companions and now we have an opportunity to reveal their fate.”
“When matters return to normal in Libya, we will take the necessary measures with the concerned sides in Libya to reveal the truth,” Mansour stressed.
He made his statements before travelling to Qatar to attend the Arab peace initiative follow-up committee meeting.
Regarded by Lebanon's Shiites as a key spiritual guide, Sadr vanished, amid mysterious circumstances and was last seen in Libya where he was invited by Gadhafi.
At the time, Sadr was trying to negotiate an end to Lebanon's civil war (1975-1990), in which Palestinian factions were involved.
Gadhafi was believed to be shipping weapons to the Palestinians and other groups and Sadr, according to reports, was hoping to convince the Libyan despot to refrain from stoking the unrest in Lebanon.
But his visit to Tripoli along with two aides took a sour turn after he got into a heated argument with Gadhafi who ordered that the three men be "taken away," according to an indictment against the Libyan leader issued by Lebanese authorities.
Relations between Libya and Lebanon have been at a low point since the cleric's disappearance, which dealt a heavy blow to the Shiite community.
please put the same effort in obtaining justice in Lebanon first, you Syrian Bootlicker!!!
Berri asked Gadhafi to kill Moussa sadr. Clearly Sadr's ideology conflicted with berri. i hope the truth does come out.
Amal could have turned out to be a decent political party should the guy not have been abducted. As may 7 mentioned. Thousands of Lebanese citizens have gone missing in Syria. We Want answers, we want the truth NOW!
How about if they're told Israel made him disappear, just like it did with Hariri!
I hope they'll show the same zealous attitude when Bachar's regime is uprooted , and all the light is shed on it's role in crimes not only in 2005 but also all throughout the 15 years war! We may then be very surprised about the role the Hezb has played throughout those years, albeit through other made-up screening names, which most people have totally forgotten about today... .
He's dead he's at least 82. No way he survive to 80s considering the conditions he probably faced in Libyan jails
Just because Gaddafi is supposed to have kidnapped the late Imam Moussa Sadr, Hizbollah has been pouring out it's hatred to the Lybian regime, and to it's Tyrant! How about Bashar, and Ahmedi , are they democrats? Who killed Bashir Gemayel and Joumblatt a few years later? And so many thereafter....
In 1978 or so , an uncontroled explosion went off in the Bekaa valley, at what was supposed to be a shiite training camp. Imam Sadr who had openly embraked in a policy aimed at recovering the spoliated rights of the shiite community, which was dubbed to be third behind christians and sunnis, in powersahring, denied he had any intentions of building up a militia then..Well one can say that the Hezb has come a long way since then! It is rather the Imam Chamseddine who tread along the same path than Imam Moussa Sadr and not the Hezb, which cannot hold any claim to a political or spiritual heritage after him. Rather , the masks have recently dropped and revealed an utmost criminal face!
Metwali I wouldn't speak in such disrespectful way of the dead, be it Imam Sadr or Rafic Hariri. There are some good shiites, and some others, just shithead criminals. I hope we could send them fast to where Imam Sadr currently is, but I dont' think they're heading up, but rather down to the garbage cloacks of History...As to the 80B , how they accumulated, you should read some serious reports on the subject. You'd probably find that many of the State Institutions were brought to near bankruptcy by those you seem to worship. Just to mention the MEA, EDL,..And those same parties seem to rob the state of its revenues, increasing day by day it's deficits. Not to mention also the 'Sondouq Al Jounoub 'which was directly controled by Berri. Those who knew him at his modest debuts know how he rose to becoming the wealthy (B) millionnaire he is today! So when you point a finger at others, three fingers are pointing simultaneously at your chest! Remember that...
Hafez Assad got rid of Kamal Jumblat in 1977 and asked his ally Qaddafi to rid him of Sadr.
