Geagea: Regional Equation Changing, Hizbullah Must Dismantle Military Wing

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea on Monday called on Hizbullah to “take a brave decision to abandon its military wing,” noting that “the regional equation that was behind the strengthening of (Hizbullah’s) military clout is changing at the moment.”

“The fall of the regime in Syria will not necessarily lead to the fall of Hizbullah in Lebanon and Syria’s allies in Lebanon will throw their support behind Hizbullah in that case,” Geagea added during an interview on MTV.

The LF leader said he believes Syrian President Bashar al-Assad will soon meet a similar fate as ousted Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi.

“There is no balance of power between the Syrian regime and opposition, as the regime has lost its clout in the domestic, Arab and international arenas,” Geagea noted.

“I don’t think that things are heading towards a civil war in Syria, but rather towards the triumph of one of the camps,” he went on to say.

Addressing the domestic Lebanese situations, Geagea ruled out an imminent collapse of Prime Minister Najib Miqati’s government.

“I don’t think that the decision to force the collapse of the government is on the table now, as those who formed it don’t favor its collapse,” he explained.

On the controversial electricity plan proposed by Energy and Water Minister Jebran Bassil, Geagea said “throughout parliament’s history, no one had ever proposed a draft law that entails the spending of $1.2 billion, as high-budget draft laws are usually proposed by the government.”

“Minister Bassil must let things take their normal course and stop calling for a hasty implementation of the electricity plan. The way the electricity plan was put forward is unusual,” he added.

The LF chief accused Bassil of tasking his “well-known advisor, who hails from Mount Lebanon, with running the (current) electricity supply system.”

Turning to the thorny issue of the U.N.-backed Special Tribunal for Lebanon, Geagea warned that “should the government stop financing the tribunal, the consequences will not be good at the international level.”

But he noted that “PM Miqati is trying to shoulder his responsibilities” in that regard.

“Hizbullah might favor the financing of the STL over facing the possible consequences of blocking the funding,” Geagea added.

This loser is simply jealous that his moronic ministers didn't do a thing in the previous governments, which is why he rejects the draft law. Another May 7 is in need to take of this scum, as well as all the other corrupt, traitorous filth (March 14).

What's the point listening to him or worse, watching him, if he has proven time and again that his predictions are false, his choices are wrong and his ideas are from another universe? Always the wrong policies. Always the wrong timing. Always wrong.

I really wish we Naharnet omitted comments similar to those by Someone and Jose. They seem to be personel and lack any intelligence. They show immaturity and bias and they do not contribute to any healthy, mature or productive debate, that the comments section is supposed to promote. Proud to be Lebanese.

I have to agree with Geagea again. For those of you like @someone and @Jose Sambousek, maybe you'd like to address what he actually said instead of throwing out insults and name calling.

@Someone/Sambousek which could be coming from the same brain cells, so let me comment on your comments, Geagea is jealous because other ministers did not do a thing and were corrupt.
Let me refresh your memory, the previous government had in it all members of the Lebanese community So if you are saying nothing happened then you are meaning the previous government with all its members did not approve anything which I presume was good for all Lebanon because all were represented and voted yes otherwise they camped in tents in central Beirut, do you remember?
Sambousek if GeaGea is always wrong and Nassrallah 2006 war was right then some of us will sign a peace treaty with Israel just like Jordan and Egypt to spare us from moronic decisions to defend a Country with 100,0000 missiles that BATMAN think he can defend a Country from the Air via missiles and kidnapping.

@Eli in Aus: contribute to a healthy, mature and productive debate? In the comments section of Naharnet? Give us an example and let's see what you can "debate maturely" within 1000 characters on this and other stories. And by the way, give your advice to and name the punks who praise the idiot Geagea stupidly, and start with the ones shown here. faylasouf 3asrak

You should all beg for this mans forgiveness as he is the only one who paid the price of the civil war while the Animals in the government today, the ones who murdered, stole and ran to Paris in their PJ like cowards are rewarded!

To Someone and Jose: Your immature arguments do not amount to anything. Threatning will not do any good and noone is obliging you to listen to Geagea. I am sure it is painful because you can not deal with logic. It is also funny that you were the first 2 to reply... probably when he was still talking. I think he must really bug you...You are either blind to what is going on or a bit challenged. No third option. For once, deal with the arguments not the man. At any rate, Sooner or later, Someone will go back to being noone and Jose Sambousek , you will go back to what you are good at: making Sambousek, I am assuming with Chavez in Chile ma hayk ya Jose.

It seems to me you @mowaten are reading and listening to Gaegae.... I wonder why?

True that the regional equation is changing. But what this imbecile fails to comprehend (cause he just talks and talks and talks without knowing what he talks about) is that the change hasn't been a positive thing for this imbecile or the losers he belongs to (and he was always a member of the Losers Club International). Look at Egypt, for example, where Mubarak is being dragged like a dog on a hospital bed to court. PEOPLE!!! Is this imbecile blind or an idiot? If his leader, cheikh Imbecile, is an idiot, then what does this say about him? PEOPLE!!!

Geaga conveniently mentions the lost of the regime of Libya, but not his allies, Egypt, Tunisia, and Yemen. Geaga only sees the cup a quarter full.
