Report: March 8 to Hold Rabieh Meet to Support Candidacies of Aoun, Franjieh
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةThe March 8 alliance is expected to hold an expanded meeting soon in order to tackle the latest developments related to the presidential elections, reported the Kuwaiti daily al-Anbaa on Saturday.
The meeting will likely assert the camp's commitment to the candidacy of Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun.
The lawmaker meanwhile reportedly said that he would only cede his nomination to Marada Movement chief MP Suleiman Franjieh.
Aoun has not yet declared his candidacy, saying that he will only do so if there was consensus over his nomination.
The March 8 meeting will also be an opportunity for the camp to respond to the initiative declared earlier this week by the March 14 alliance over the presidential elections.
The meeting will be held at Rabieh, but a date for it has not been scheduled yet.
Lebanon has been without a president since the term of Michel Suleiman ended in May.
Disputes between the rival March 8 and 14 camps over a consensual candidate have thwarted the election of a president.
The majority of March 8 parliamentary blocs have boycotted the elections sessions over the dispute.
Aoun has said that he would be willing to run in the polls if there was agreement over him, while Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea, a candidate himself, has accused the March 8 alliance of blackmailing the March 14 camp into electing the Free Patriotic Movement chief.
The March 14 alliance on Tuesday kept its support for Geagea but said it was ready to agree on another consensual candidate for the presidential elections.
The camp holds onto the candidacy of Geagea, al-Mustaqbal bloc leader MP Fouad Saniora said, but expressed the alliance's “full readiness to discuss with the rest of the factions the name of a person who receives the backing of all the Lebanese and who is committed to the country's principles.”

Frangieh is at least "normal" compared to a psychopath and neurotic person.
One prediction: when Aoun will see that he is out; he will fall into depressive state (happened before) and would be interned into mental clinic.
The fight for the legacy will start and no one wants to remain with bassil.
jacks...so most probably and according to your distorted comment - not to say more appropriate medical word - Lebanon will have either an ''Illiterate'' or a ''failed Statesman''...like it or not (-:
Support their candidacies all you want, then go down to the Parliament and vote for them. That's what normal people do! But alas...
Oh woaw, M8 are outdoing themselves, either an army defector who still has not brought back our prisoners from Syria or an openly proud supporter of the butcher in Syria.
No to Aoun, Gemayel, Franjieh or Geagea....fhamo w'7illo 3anna ba2a.
U bring back Suleiman the only normal president and balanced that came in lebanon's history.
Those who support a dictator or armed militias can not believe in Democracy.
Down with Nusra-ISIS-HA and Assad.
Long live a Democratic Lebanon
So Aoun who has sold himself to Assad says he will step aside only for the candidacy of Sleiman Frangieh, Assad's personal slave? And Aoun is the head of the what? Free? Patriotic? Movement?
Assad who incubated Dae3g in Syria as insurance for his regime so that the ONLY alternative to his Mafia Rule is a barbaric outfit that cuts people's heads off for fun, this Assad who let Dae3g loose in Iraq and in Eastern Syria and who funds Dae3g with purchases of petroleum. This same Daeg that Assad set loose in Nahr el Barid in Tripoli. This Dae3g that Aoun warns against as the mortal threat to Lebanon, Aoun is in league with the patron of Dae3g.
And Frangieh, who is so frightened of and hateful toward the Sunni is so blinded by his ignorant hatred that he cannot see that Assad is the main patron of the Sunni Dae3g. This is a case of the comb over leading the ignorantly blind.
LOL. I want to vote for you, but I won't go and vote for you. Now, let's have lunch and make "tasarih".
