Report: Aoun's Presidency Hopes High, to Visit Jumblat
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةFree Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun's chances to reach the presidency post still exist, al-Liwaa newspaper reported on Monday.
The daily reported that Foreign Minister Jebran Bassil, Aoun's son-in-law, with his Saudi and U.S. counterparts in Jeddah last week the ongoing presidential deadlock in Lebanon.
Sources told al-Liwaa that Prince Saud al-Faisal and John Kerry stressed the importance of ending the presidential crisis by the election of a strong president.
The sources said that Kerry and al-Faisal hinted during the talks with Bassil that there's no veto on Aoun.
Lebanon has been without a president since the term of Michel Suleiman ended in May.
Ongoing disputes between the March 8 and 14 camps over a compromise candidate have thwarted the election of a president despite several elections sessions being held at parliament.
Hizbullah's Loyalty to the Resistance bloc and the Change and Reform bloc of MP Aoun have been boycotting the sessions due to the disagreement.
Aoun has repeatedly said that he is willing to run in the elections if there is consensus over him.
Meanwhile, al-Akhbar newspaper reported that Aoun will soon visit head of the Progressive Socialist Party MP Walid Jumblat, following his recent talks with the FPM chief in Rabieh.
The two officials discussed during their meeting the presidential deadlock and the importance of backing the Lebanese army.
Jumblat had also visited Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah to discuss the presidential crisis.

...oh I forgot to ask, are you bringing our prisoners home from the Syrian jails like you promised any time soon? No? What happened? You can't convince your best friend the butcher to let a few of them come home to score political points with you brainwashed low information followers? Ahh, that's too bad. Take your meds and forget the chair, it's not going to happen Bubbah.
No veto means not interested ya zake! What will it take to make u understand that u have Zero chance of ever becoming president....
No one wants a bresident on a walker, putting aside the soon to come mostly feared
A. disease.
Sorry flamethrower my cousin and I went to Bikfaya this weekend and could not read all your comments. I just caught up with all of them. You are something another, completely another!
Deserter not defector he actually called the French embassy to tell them he capitulates minutes after the Syrians attacked. I tell you the French were impressed and disappointed, they'd held the record for such maneuver for centuries. Oh and he never told his troops any of this untill he was safe at the French embassy hours later. You see his personal safety came before theirs the plastic hero (:
Good morning little girl had a good night sleep? I hope you did not have your high horse in bed with you.
If Lebanon wants a mentally ill person...then they can have a psycopath living on Leponex, Largactil, Zoloft and Xanax. Look at the pupil of his eyes.
lol do you even know what rapid eye movement is or dod you just hear it in biology class recently. how is the first week of school treating you?
His followers keep insulting the Hariri and the Wahhabi while their boss is begging them.
His history in security and politics failed. Therefore the country will go from bad to worse. We need new blood as president.
Of course not. you wouldnt be able to tell the difference between a pen and a hot dog, let alone explain anything
making this statement on naharnet is like asking the sky not to be blue, or FT not to be an idiot. here you wither go with it or ignore it (second choice is better for your own health)
You're soooo adorable FT....too cute for words. Is your beloved Saint Aoun going to bring our prisoners back like he promised or not? Oh what? You can't answer a straight question? No worries people like you are here to simply disrupt and distort, no answer is expected from you. Go make a statue of saint Aoun and worship it all day, still he won't become president and still he will remain a coward who left his soldiers on the battle field to be massacred by the Syrians while he deserted to the French embassy like the spineless coward that he is. The truth bites...live with it.
Exactly M11. Aoun never thinks about what he's saying. He always contradicts himself. This will make you laugh. http://www.naharnet.com/stories/en/124927
He is grasping at straws again . Bassill said ther is no Saudi or US veto on Aoun. The reality is that there is no US or Saudi veto on any potential candidate. All are on record as saying the Lebanese are free to choose their President, largely because it doesn't matter to outside powers. The office has no strategic importance to them, it is simply a Christian set aside without much legal power or authority at all. That power is with the PM and Counsel of Ministers.
I might see that allying with HA is a better alliance than Mustaqbal, however, I just could not ever go with Aoun. We all know he would sell his mother to be president. Its all he cares about. Even though I believe that LF exists to protect a Christian presence in Lebanon, I am not a Geagea fan for president. He is better off as a military commander.
