Youths Storm al-Jazeera Office in Beirut, Demand Apology to Army
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةA group of youths stormed on Sunday evening al-Jazeera television office in Beirut protesting against what was issued by it about the army.
The youths declared protesting in the television's building until an apology is presented by al-Jazeera.
LBCI stated: “A group of youths under the title Omega Team protested in al-Jazeera television office in Beirut.”
“Protesting against the tweet by journalist Faisal Qassem where he insults the Lebanese army,” it added.
"We are defending the dignity of our army and people,” said a man who spoke on behalf of the Omega Team to LBCI.
"After the army was insulted by al-Jazeera we decided to protest here in the television office and our demand is an apology statement by al-Jazeera to the army,” added the man.
MTV stated: “The group protesting demands the discharge of journalist al-Qassem from his post in protest of what he wrote about the army.”
The protesters carried placards with slogans against al-Jazeera television and al-Qassem and carried the flag of the Lebanese army.
Earlier, al-Qassem had insulted the Lebanese soldiers through a tweet he shared on his Twitter account, which provoked the anger of many people online.
Few days ago, the army raided the camps of Syrians refugees in Arsal where they stopped dozens, and arrested four from al-Nusra Front.
The Syrian refugees in the camps of Arsal protested against the army's raids and showed their support to the Islamic State.
Z.A.
No one should bet against the house. LAF should go to tripoli and arrest another 50 nusra to swap them.
Those in roumyeh should remain there because they fought the army and killed tens of them.
that Faisal Al-Qassem is a buffoon, desperate for attention. he stated that "his mission is to liberate the Arab World from dictatorship, despots, and traditions" yet he works for the qatari mouthpiece. lol
of course the lebanese army should obey to certain ethics, and it does.
the accusation that the army burned a camp is false, they actually arrested the 3 men who did. any self-respecting journalist would check the facts before making such stupid and insulting comments.
what qassem did was simply to repeat empty claims propagated by the terrorists and their supporters to try to push tensions further.
in any case it is always amusing to see cavemen from the middle-ages trying to give lessons on democracy and ethics to others... if only they could see themselves as the rest of the world does.
no journalist is ever really objective, however some have ethics and are credible because they do their homework, others just tweet around provocations and enjoy the attention.
as for criticizing the army, yes, it is perfectly acceptable, but insulting it? no way. that monkey insults all of lebanon when he does this, and before you say our support for our army is "blind" maybe you should first check the facts.
Sorry @lebanon_first, I normally agree with your comments. Not this one though. Had these youths limited their actions to protesting and demonstrating at the location of Al Jazeera (which I personally find way too biased), then it would have been in line with accepted norms of democratic self expression. But, actually storming the inside of the building, sorry not acceptable.
I agree with all the commentators that stated the ISF and army should have removed then forthwith and with prejudice if they resist.
you are right. But go read aljazeera. Totally anti Lebanese. I mean we are hosting more than 1Million refugees while their forces are kidnapping us!!! imagine! Instead of kissing our feet "thank you" every morning, all they say is that we mistreat them.
Not contesting what you are saying and agreed about Al Jazeera's reporting being way biased. Nevertheless, if our Lebanese society is to evolve into a democracy we can not tolerate such actions as they usurp the rights of others no matter how despicable those others are.
We do not want Lebanon in the image of HA followers no way no how.
esquire- defacto.
I am sorry. We will never see a lebanese putin, a lebanese sisi, a lebanese degaulle.
If one leader starts to be great in lebanon, Assad will have him killed. State policy.
Humm, I wonder why didn't Oryan and pals storm the offices of Al Akhbar and Assafir after all both have been serializing editorials very disrespectful to the Lebanese army and it's leadership.
Take some time off your full time job posting HA propaganda department prepared statements on Naharnet learn to read then go read the last few weeks of alakhbar and assafir editorial pages, thank youl
thank u brother flamethrower.
its actually 8 al qaida members on the naharnet board who disagree with me.
probably syrians at an internet cafe in hamra
Really @bigjohn, really? al Akhbar (HA mouth piece) and Safir (totally far far left and close to M8) are not biased? Now I've heard it all, WOW!
@lebanese_american: hello, it seems you are a new poster, I’d love to know a little less about you. What other user names do you currently have? do you live in dahieh?
I remember not long ago when aljazeera was kouw el moumana3a's favorite news chanel, but back then al qaeda takfiries the precursors of ISIS were being sent by bashar assad to destabilize us occupied iraq. I was also the times of billboards, songs and dance about "thank you qatar".
Brave youths, protecting the dignity of the army, against the Nusra/IS media AL JAZEERA.
