Human Rights Watch Slams Curfews on Syrians in Lebanon
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةLebanese towns and villages are increasingly imposing curfews on Syrian refugees in the country and restricting their movements, an international human rights group said Friday.
Human Rights Watch said the curfews "contribute to a climate of discriminatory and retaliatory practices against them."
The New York-based group said in a statement that it has identified at least 45 towns and villages across Lebanon that have imposed such curfews.
"The authorities have presented no evidence that curfews for Syrian refugees are necessary for public order or security in Lebanon," said Nadim Houry, deputy Middle East director at Human Rights Watch.
"These curfews are just contributing to an increasingly hostile environment for Syrian refugees in the country," he said.
Attacks against Syrians, as well as curfews, have intensified since Aug. 2, when Islamist militants crossed into Lebanon and engaged several days of deadly clashes with the Lebanese army. The gunmen captured around 35 soldiers and police officers and have executed three of them, fueling anger in Lebanon.
Syrian activists have reported increasing tensions with Lebanese residents in the wake of the violence in Arsal, and the kidnappings and executions.
There are more than 1.1 million Syrian refugees in Lebanon, which has a population of just four million citizens and has kept the border open to those fleeing the conflict in its neighbor.
What's disposable is your comment and these stupid curfews. Collective punishment is illegal and immoral. If there are crimes arrest those that are committing them and punish them and not everyone else even if they are their parents as you put it.
This time i agree with this Lf. Syrians need to bo back to Syria for the sake of their future. It's in their best interest. Making life too comfortable in lebanon is not helping them.
LF, I just came here to support your comment.....now there's nothing to see here *flies away*
Before criticizing the Lebanese authorities, Human Rights Watch should start by pushing for the promised aid in order to help Lebanon in receiving more than a million syrian refugees, more than any other Arab country. Moreover, HRW forgot to say that among the refugees, hundreds of terrorists have taken "refuge". Enough is enough. We always receive refugees and get stabbed in the back by those same refugees.
This UN is useless... All it's good at is talking!! You take these refugees?!? Who the hell is the UN but a useless bunch sitting at s round table in New York that gives opinions?!
While we on the ground have to face Syrians desperate for life willing to steal and commit crimes, even fanatics among them. Why we Lauren to the UN is beyond me!
If they care so much Let them host them! We've done 1 million times our part over!
The UN has identified at least 45 towns, as if they caught us? Let me tell you, any town in Lebanon not imposing the curfew and probably more to show the Syrians on their own, that time has come to go back to Syria. They will never consider Lebanon their home, they should leave, and they should leave as early as possible.
