Lebanon Among Nations with Most Gender Inequality
Lebanon suffers from severe gender inequality, according to the annual Gender Gap Index issued by the Geneva-based World Economic Forum on Tuesday.
The survey showed Lebanon falling to 135th place in the list of 142 nations after being ranked 123rd out of 136 countries surveyed last year.
Lebanon came after Morocco and Jordan, which ranked respectively 133rd and 134th.
The survey ranked Lebanon 141st for female political participation, given the low number of women holding public office.
Lebanon was also at the bottom 10 in terms of labor force participation.
Nordic nations led the world in promoting equality of the sexes, as they have for many years, with Iceland, Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark occupying the top five spots.
Syria ranked 139th as Yemen, Pakistan and Chad remained at the bottom of the index.
"Achieving gender equality is obviously necessary for economic reasons. Only those economies who have full access to all their talent will remain competitive and will prosper," Klaus Schwab, WEF founder and executive chairman, said in a statement.
The index ranks countries based on data reported by international organizations on four categories: health and survival, access to education, economic opportunity and political participation.
G.K.

I see this article as being heavily biased, maybe we don't top the charts for gender equality but we certainly rank that far either. There are some countries where women will kill for the rights they have in Lebanon. It is thus fair to say that this article like so many others before it, not only necessarily on gender equality but also on what relates to Lebanon's rightful dues, is just one more heavily biased article, so what new? Had we been in better times, our media would not have sparred a counter attack as a response.
just wondering, do you think this makes you appear as a tough guy? or do you think you're impressing me? lol
I must admit mowaten and his fake accounts along with his double flamethrower have made this forum very unfriendly. They criticize naharnet yet their sole purpose here is to destroy this forum through fake accounts, tailing posters, spamming, harassment, etc.
naharnet mods: the above doesnt make any sense after all the comments deletion. at this point you might as well delete the whole thread.
mowaten, i agree, why was my post deleted. I am done with naharnet. Seems like a waste of energy to post on here.
i understand, but i dont want to let the trolls have free reign, so i'll keep bugging them with some painful truths :)
