Khamenei Says CIA Torture Shows U.S. is 'Symbol of Tyranny'

The torture of al-Qaida suspects by the CIA shows that the U.S. government is a "symbol of tyranny against humanity," Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Wednesday.

His was the first official reaction in Iran to a U.S. Senate report that torture of suspects in the years following the 9/11 attacks on the United States was far more brutal than acknowledged and failed to produce useful intelligence.

"Today, U.S. govt. is symbol of tyranny against humanity; even American ppl are faced w cruelty," Khamenei wrote on Twitter, referring to a speech he had made in 2007.

Tehran is regularly criticized from abroad over its own human rights record, especially regarding the high number of people it executes, and over restrictions on press and religious freedoms.

But it invariably retorts that these accusations are politically motivated, in turn criticizing Western nations for trying to impose on the Islamic republic their concept of human rights.

"They claim human rights and trample its basics in their prisons, in interactions with nations and even with their own people," Khamenei added from a 2010 speech.

"They claim they've a prideful nation; U.S. governments debased and misguided their people who aren't aware of many realities," he added.

The report, released Tuesday, said the Central Intelligence Agency also misled the White House and Congress with inaccurate claims about the program's usefulness.

Khamenei's tweets drew extensive comments.

Some recalled the numerous cases of people who have died in detention in Iran in recent years, and the case of a woman hanged in October for stabbing to death a man she said had tried to sexually assault her.

Glad to see the Islamic Republic's Khamanei and North Korea's Kim Jong Un, two ruthless dictators, outraged by the report that the US Government released about itself.
Hopefully those dictators will follow suit and release documents on how the secret services of the Islamic Republic and North Korea kill, torture, burn, blow up and hang people.

These dictator need to learn how democracy works? Transparency, even if it means hurting our image..

This ladies & gents confirms when some people post under the illusion of having a clue.....but rather embarrassingly make complete fools of themselves.

Iran in one day commits more crimes against humanity than the U.S?

2 million dead in Iraq alone based on a lie & the numbers will only swell...yet you didn;t notice that small figure of 2 million humans dead based on lies ..but you saw some man hanged in Iran?

wow real powerful argument once again from this brainwashed dinosaur.

Thumb zahle1 10 December 2014, 19:20

Ask this guy how the Iranians treat someone who just blew up their spot. Are you kidding me? Is water boarding even torture to make you think you are drowning? I mean come on. It was war. Its not like they burnt people, raped people, shocked people, drowned people... He should just be quiet and not speak on this. The world is laughing at us, because it is just US liberal mumbo jumbo.

Thumb Machia 10 December 2014, 19:32

Actually we did not get what Khamanei means when he says:"Today, U.S. govt. is symbol of tyranny against humanity; even American ppl are faced w cruelty..."

Khamanei is just saying that in the Islamic Republic we are not cruel to whom we consider as traitors, we kill them, blow them up, suffocate them to death or throw them off cliffs.
It is like seeing a wounded animal, don't be cruel and kill it. That is what Khamanei is saying!

Thumb Elemental 10 December 2014, 19:33

Kinda hypocritical don't you think? This wonderful regime is no better...Alrighty HA supporters come defend your homeland's leader.

Missing greatpierro 10 December 2014, 19:51

at least the US are recognizing the cases of torture and doing something about it. Can you say the same thing about iran and syria. What about russia? Please just read the book of Luke Harding reporter for the Gardian in Russia about the tyranic practices of the Putin regime (who actually wrote a best selling book about Snowden)

Missing ArabDemocrat.com 10 December 2014, 21:54

greatpierro ... Shame on you for comparing the cesspool of criminality called the US with the paragon of human rights in Syria and Iran. Thank you Southern for pointing to us the obvious - that you and your camp are morally and intellectually bankrupt. When you condemn the criminality of the Syrian regime, you earn the right to criticize others.

Missing humble 10 December 2014, 19:53

It is strange that all comments disapprove this declaration...for once he created unanimity...!!!

Missing greatpierro 10 December 2014, 19:53

By the way Iran holds records after records of executed prisoners without any judgment. What about the Syrian regime? Have you heard about the Hotel Beau Rivage in Beirut? About the torture of Lebanese citizens? About the thousands of Lebanese who have disappeared in the Syrian jails?

Thumb lebnanfirst 10 December 2014, 20:14

Layoff @the_roar
You know full well the gest of the remark and the inherent demagoguery of systems such as the Iranian one in comparison to Western systems say like Australia??

I guess you have no choice but to move to North Korea or to the Islamic Republic and live there for good.
No M14, no US influence, no Mc. D, Baskin Robins, US TV series, no comedians, no rock'n' roll, Naharnet but you will eat every day shello kabab or North Korean duck, you will breathe freedom of expression and feel at liberty to be miserable.

Thumb westernlebanese 10 December 2014, 21:04

can someone please nuke these ugly iranians??? this is something the cia did to terrorists like hizbulshaitan and isis which they deserve!! plus the cia and the US government let this report out about their own!! i would pay to see the day iran, syriaor hizbulshaitan tell the truth about the bombings and killings they committed.. what a joke!!

Thumb westernlebanese 10 December 2014, 21:12

@flamethrower There are no slaves here.. its called freedom... we get to choose and have our own opinion of who we believe in. unlike you iranians you dont have a choice. you are the only slave.. try going to iran and protesting against the government or try to speak your mind. try to log online.. good luck doing so. I am in Washington right now i can sit in front of the white house and protest and give my opinion about anything I like... ohh i can also go on my iphone 6 and log into any website or chat without being blocked.. i can post about anything I like and then go back home to a warm house with 24/7 electricity, then I can order in any kind of food I like with extra bacon.. can you do most of these in iran?? I didn't think so

Thumb Maxx 10 December 2014, 22:05

LMAO! LOOK WHO'S TALKING! Though I, like any civilized Human Being, unreservedly condemn the CIA's torture tactics under the Republicans, Iran, as it is today, would have been better off if it used this moment to shut the eff up. It would have at least maintained some dignity.

Marja Sayed Khamanei, continues to lead his people through the struggles, to fight back against the imperialist ideas. May he succeed inshallah, and all the enemies perish.

Thumb Mystic 11 December 2014, 02:54

If patriotism is spit shining Israelis boots, and say "Bless America" then I pass on that. Patriotism is spitting on the super powers head, not by bowing down to their feet.
