The Dar al-Fatwa spiritual summit stressed on Tuesday the importance of historic and current cooperation between Christians and Muslims in Lebanon.

The closing statement, read by Secretary General of the Christian-Muslim Committee for Dialogue Mohammed al-Sammak, stressed: “All sides should adhere to the civil state, frank dialogue, and reject foreign meddling in Lebanon.”

The summit was headed by Grand Mufti Mohammed Rashid Qabbani and attended by Vice President of the Higher Islamic Shiite Council Abdul Amir Qabalan, Druze spiritual leader Sheikh Naim Hassan, and Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi.

The statement highlighted the historic role Christians have played in the East, saying that they have and still play a central role in the region.

Addressing the developments in Lebanon, it said: “The country’s stability is based on the principles of mutual coexistence, as well as respecting the constitution and sovereignty of the state.”

“Preserving the Lebanese people’s unity requires them to firmly oppose foreign meddling,” it said.

Furthermore, the gatherers stressed the importance of reform in Lebanon and openness among its citizens.

“Lebanon will survive through dialogue and the unity of its people,” they noted.

They also voiced their opposition to the naturalization of Palestinians in Lebanon, emphasizing their right to return to their homeland.

During the opening of the summit, Qabbani stressed the unity between Christians and Muslims to safeguard their existence and future.

“Neither Muslims nor Christians are seeking to harm each other in Lebanon and the Arab world,” he said.

He highlighted the need to implement the Taef accord to confront “strife that has lasted many years.”

Th only Summit required by religious leaders is how to disassociate themselves from the rule of the state to allow and give rise to one secular civil democratic state!

look at this group:
only the druze and the chiites represent their worshippers, the sunni and the maronite represent themselves only :)

We know that the spiritual leaders do not seek sedition, but it is the thugs and their mafias who are. We know what mafia Hariri and their Al Qaeda - Akkar and Tripoli Brigades (aka Sunni crazies) are doing. Then, they converted the politically dead Lebanese Fartses, the Kataeb and the min kil wedi 3asa of the defunct March 14 to the Sunni sect, which is like pumping their soul-less balloons with fart. This charade must and WILL stop.

Religious leaders!?? they all are rich, well fed and have a lot power over their poor peoples...they should STOP meddling in state affairs and stick to weddings, divorces, etc... and they keep in making money from the living and the dead. Separation of church/mosque and state is a MUST for a free and democratic Lebanon. I am sure the Hizbees will disagree because Hassouna is a religious figure to some also.

while some here believe that hezb'allah here would oppose the division of religion and state, we have a clear record of nasrallah and others in march 8 talking about abolishing the sectarian system.
After all, it was michel aoun in his crazy days as "prime minister" that actually abolished the sectarian system which made lady gaga to ally to syrians and approve taef.

therefore, when you see someone saying anything against march 8 in this regard, it's either total ignorance, sectarian hate or zionist information war department spilling slime here again.

this is a deja vu. Batrack mouchi did the same thing long time ago and lebanon had peace for a while. as the population grows in that little peace of land that has nothing to offer the world exept tourism. there will be no room left and of course things are going to happen. in my opinion is to nationalise this country andmake it neutral like switzerland. lebanon will be open for turism again and prosper. thats the only solution. no matter what they do or meet as long as there are politicians belonging to different outside powers there will be no peace . religion should not be the law of the land. lebanon is the international boxing rink. if a goat get pregnent in saudiarabia it will have its baby in lebanon. and so on.

@ jabalamel...

are you from another planet? Hezbollah is a purely Shia movement armed to the teeth with clearly stated goals...

This is not very secular... You have no record to brag about in M8.

wow what a shame. the report mentioned that summit was attended by druze sunni, shiite and maronite, yet no mention of the orthodox church.

“Preserving the Lebanese people’s unity requires them to firmly oppose foreign meddling,”

if they said who is meddling clearly in our affairs would have been better, but they are blind to the clear meddling of syria & iran, the assasinations, the intimidations and so on...
what a bunch :)

"....But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. 4 They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.
5 “Everything they do is done for people to see: They make their phylacteries[a] wide and the tassels on their garments long; 6 they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues; 7 they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by others...."

All these should stay out of politics and give up their power. religion is the root of Lebanon's destruction

@Jabalamel, try making sense for once.Try debating real facts instead of name calling, attacking people, and repeating your same crap about how everyone is a zionist and the glorious this or that.
