3 Drug Smuggling Operations Foiled at Beirut Airport in 24 Hours
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةCustoms agents at Rafik Hariri International Airport thwarted on Sunday an attempt to smuggle narcotic pills, in the third such operation in the past 24 hours, the state-run National News Agency reported.
NNA said the agents arrested an Egyptian arriving from Cairo at around 1:30 am after finding 2,050 red-colored pills inside two icons made of wood.
The drugs weighed around 650 grams, it said.
Hours earlier, the agents apprehended a Nigerian coming from Brazil via Abu Dhabi after they found 3.6 kilograms of cocaine in his bag.
The drugs were hidden in 44 cigar tubes, NNA said.
The man was trying to smuggle the drugs to Abidjan. He was on a transit in Beirut.
Also Saturday, a Brazilian transit passenger was arrested for hiding 3 kilograms of cocaine in two paper bags attached to his underwear.
The three suspects have been referred to the Central Anti-Drug office in Beirut for further investigation.
On a side note, Interpol and other international security agencies ought now to understand that when the Lebanese State is given the means to work, when its constitutional institutions are allowed and supported to do their work, they indeed can deliver a sterling job. Let not such achievements and others as well by the State of Lebanon be ignored by the world. "Give us peace, and we shall astound the world", Amin Gemayel.
Coming from Brazil via Abu Dhabi to Beirut enroute to Abidjan?
What happened no direct flights from Brazil to Ivory Coast. Is it necessary to fly about 10 times the direct distance? Something very very strange here.
