Report: Bekaa Security Plan to Kick Off amid Concerns over Hizbullah, AMAL's Lack of Cooperation

Preparations are underway to launch a state-sponsored security plan in the northern Bekaa region amid fears that influential powers in the area would not cooperate fully with the security forces, reported the daily An Nahar on Sunday.
Concerned sources told the daily that the security forces “did not sense real cooperation in implementing the plan with Hizbullah and the AMAL movement” that wield their influence in the area.
They noted that party forces did cooperate with the Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau in granting them access to the town of Brital to arrest suspect Charbel Khalil.
They did not however show the same cooperation in helping the arrest of members of the Jaafar clan, who are wanted for the murder of members of the Fakhri family in the town of Btedei, added the sources.
Khalil, who is accused of killing the young man Yves Naufal in Faraya on January 9, was arrested Wednesday in the northern Bekaa town of Brital.
On November 15, a couple from the Fakhri family was killed at the hands of fugitives from the Jaafar clan who were fleeing army troops.
The gunmen entered the family's house with the intent of taking their vehicle but the tenants showed resistance, prompting the armed men to shoot the couple and their son.
Meanwhile, high-ranking military sources told the Kuwaiti daily al-Seyassah on Sunday that the army is taking strict measures to confront attempts by terrorist groups to destabilize Lebanon.
They demanded that official authorities seriously address the information revealed by detained terrorists that may jeopardize the country's security.
“The army is determined to confront any plot aimed at keeping Lebanon an open ground for conflict,” they stressed.
They also demanded that the military be granted the necessary support to preserve security and confront terrorism.
Security forces had kicked off state-sponsored security plans in the North and Beirut in 2014.
They were aimed at cracking down on wanted gunmen and terrorists.
A number of arrests were made, but several fugitives remain at large.
