Army Arrests Suspected Terrorist in Beirut's Southern Suburbs
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةThe army command said on Monday that the military has arrested a Syrian in Beirut's southern suburbs on suspicion of belonging to a terrorist organization.
Mohammed Ibrahim Youssef was apprehended in Haret Hreik at dawn Monday, said the army in a communique.
Youssef is suspected of belonging to a terror group and participating in terrorist attacks on the Lebanese-Syrian border, it said.
The communique added that the suspect was referred to the competent authorities to take the necessary action against him.
Eight soldiers were killed on Friday during a battle with Syria-based fighters from the Islamic State group near the northeastern village of Ras Baalbek.
The cross-border assault was the most serious attack since militants from the IS and al-Qaida-linked al-Nusra Front seized Lebanese soldiers and policemen in a raid in the northeastern border town of Arsal in August 2014.
