Report: FPM-LF Dialogue to Improve after Vatican Backing
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةThe dialogue between the Free Patriotic Movement and Lebanese Forces could witness positive developments after the Vatican announced its backing for the upcoming meeting between the two parties' leaders.
Al-Mustaqbal daily quoted sources as saying on Wednesday that the Vatican's ambassador to Lebanon, Bishop Gabriel Caccia, has warned against attempts to paralyze the negotiations between the FPM and LF.
The talks between the officials of the two parties are expected to culminate in a meeting between FPM chief MP Michel Aoun and LF leader Samir Geagea.
Both of them are presidential candidates. Their rivalry and other factors have left Baabda Palace vacant sine President Michel Suleiman's term ended in May last year.
Al-Joumhouria daily quoted Vatican officials as saying that the “Christians of the Orient are a priority, particularly at the current stage, which is witnessing attempts to uproot them.”
The officials, who were not identified, said that the Vatican is in continuous contact with decision-making countries to “guarantee the necessary protection of the remaining Christians” in the region.
The sources also backed Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi's efforts to pressure officials into electing a new president to appease the fears of the Christians.
They said finding a successor to Suleiman would give back Christians their role of partnership in the nation and would bring the rival Christian parties closer.
Under the National Pact of 1943, the president should be a Maronite Christian, the speaker a Muslim Shiite and the prime minister a Muslim Sunni.
G.K.
H.K.
Both of them are presidential candidates.
- lmaooooooo candidates according to what, the boycott of 15+ electoral sessions?? There haven't been candidates in 10 months
I am frankly skeptical that this report quotes Pope Francis as referring to the Shia majority of Lebanon as "the scum of the earth who are not worth the cost of the 18,000 howitzer shells it would cost to remove them to a safe location." His comment about Article 24 of the Lebanese Constitution (which assigns half the seats in the Lebanese Parliament to Christians), which was that he worried that there were not enough Christians in Lebanon to fill those several dozen seats, sounded more authentic.
Caporal is a traitor to the Christians. Anyone who supports a Mutelateh is a traitor to the Christians.
Who supports a mutelateh? Please provide any statement by General Aoun saying he does, or be confirmed as a rumor-peddling propagandist.
Caporal is a traitor to the Christians. He hopes by being a servant to Ebola and Iran he will be president. But he is a loser and will never achieve anything. His mental illness will explode and he will end up in an asylum for mad people
I don't know who onionringz is, but why would you say it is FT? What would you know about that? And how is that even remotely relevant? Stick to the topic at hand and stop trying to divert. If you have nothing of value to say then zip it.
Any Christian who supports the Caporal is committing a crime towards the Christians.
Both Geagea and Aoun should repair the massive damage they've caused the Lebanese, starting from the Christians of Lebanon. Between the two we have seen reverses after reverses. Although in this context I personally view Geagea being the better of the two, still, both men should cease forthwith to aspire to any hopes of becoming presidents as both do not have enough support from all the people. Both have a bad history, both participated heavily in the civil war so both should now just drop our of the presidential race. But before they fade away, let them repair the damage they caused and this by soldering the Christian again into a cohesive political force. When done let them both together with Bkerke agree on a consensual candidate. We have many decent men and women within our ranks, surely there is no difficulty here. Then the charade that brings in such clowns like Jumblat and others to share their rubbish needs to be stop right now.
bro, I am posting from school bro. I see what you're saying. But if there is no Geagea you think aoun will be any different bro. The problem bro is not Geagea; it is aoun and the hizb bro. I decided not to read too much of naharnet bro because the_roar and the flame_thrower destroyed the forum bro. I need to focus on my studies bro so i can go to university bro. Cheers and Beers bro.
Al Finique, do you have to repeat that Bro word so many times? You could empty your 3G credits you know?
Do we really think that even the Pope could make these guys sacrifice their private interests for the interests of the Nation?
