Gemayel: Christians Will Not be Victims of Arab Revolts

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel rejected on Thursday that the Christians in the East would be the victims of the revolutions taking place in the Arab world.

He said during a press a conference: “It is time that we protect the Christians through the establishment of a new bill that protects their existence in order that they no longer remain victims.”

He held the conference to address the situation in the Arab world in light of his recent trip to Egypt where he held talks with a number of prominent officials.

Gemayel continued: “The majority of the Arab revolutions have not unified the ranks of their people or established a proper organized system.”

“We support the movement to achieve change in the region and we want it to be a success,” he added.

Furthermore, he warned that dictatorial systems could take advantage of the current disorganization of the post-revolt reality in the countries that have toppled the old regimes.

“Lebanon’s role does not involve selling weapons to countries witnessing revolts, but its experience in establishing a democratic system should be used,” the Phalange Party chief stressed.

“We are therefore suggesting that a new bill that paves the way for a new Arab system be devised,” Gemayel stated.

The historic developments in the Arab world grant the Arab League a new role in interfering in the revolts to put an end to the violence and guarantee reform and the peaceful transition of power, he noted.

The revolts should abide by certain principles to assure the people that they are keen on reaching democracy and freedom, he continued.

On this note, he said that he had proposed to Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi, during his Egypt trip, that a meeting of Arab academics be held in order for them to reach an agreement on these principles.

He also praised Arabi’s recent suggestion that Egypt’s al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayyeb call for a Muslim-Christian meeting.

“Such an initiative will bolster the Arab League’s role and grant the revolutions credibility in their societies and the international community,” Gemayel stressed.

“That way the future of the Arab world will be made by Arabs themselves and not foreign meddling,” he concluded.

The revolutions in Egypt and Tunisia were led by the Secular Left. Since then the vicious Saudi regime has been funneling billion$ to counter revolutionary Salafists and other Sunni groups who consider even the Arab Christians as "infidels".

the only false argument the syro/iranians have is what John from koura said: try to frighten us from the salafis :)
well, mark your records we are not afraid, from the salafis, because when the syro/iranians will fall, they will fall with them. we do not forget nahr el bared, and where these thugs came from, from syria in case you forgot.
these scare tactics will not work, and we will not forget the real danger being hizbushaitan and their followers.
at this stage anything is better . :)

Geha, I am not trying to scare anyone. I could care less if the lousy Assad regime falls (which will not, not most of Syria...there was a huge pro-Assad rally in Sunni and Christian Aleppo yesterday, which Naharnet will not mention). The Syrian regime came to Lebanon in 1976 to save the Lebanese Fascists by attacking the LNM, and later armed Amal movement to attack and weaken what was left of the LNM.

I am only pointing out different facts that you do not read on Naharnet.

Look at komrade Qawmi John trying to participate in the debate like a grown up, he cares less about Assad he says (crossings his fingers) then proceeds to open the faucet on his fountain of misinformation,

Qawmi John failed to mention:
Fist the Syrians did not come help anybody but themselves they were fighting alongside the LNM and PLO against the "Lebanese fascists", when President Frangieh asked them to help they were already here fighting on the other side.

The "Lebanese fascists" were defending their country against the settlement of armed Palestinian terrorists supported by the LNM and mercenaries from Somalia, Sudan, Libya and God knows who else.

The LNM was nothing without the PLO and the mercenaries.

Amal, PSP and the rest of the LNM fought pitched battles against each others in Beirut causing Berri and Jumblat to ask the Syrian army back in after it fled ahead of the Israeli invasion.

When Hezballah destroyed the Lebanese resistance was practically the end of the LNM.

@john
I think you do not read properly as naharnet did report the regime rally in Aleppo :)
however please stop the salafi story as it is old fashioned and resembles the ghool we used to hear about when we were kids. :)

But fountain komrade Qawmi John, you forgot that it was the Iranians who claimed that the Arab spring was creating the Islamic Middle east. I don't think many Christians would accept living in an Islamic Middle east but you probably would even if the Christians were second class citizens, as long as the Sunni Salafi groups or Muslim brotherhood fought the Zionists, the USA and the west.
After all idiots like you supported the PLO's destruction of Lebanon and would help out if the right Sunni Salafis or other fundamentalists came along.

to john from Koura

welcome to an nahar comments section. let me explain you how things work here.

there is a person, or a group of persons that belongs to one of 3 groups:
1.zionist information war department (you will recognize those by not knowing some basic facts about lebanon)
2. sectarian haters (you will recognize those by "iran iran iran iran iran ")
3. and some strange creatures from anti-lebanese forces (you will recognize those when lady gaga is on the news, they go wild and write craziest of things)

also, there is mowaten and some others who are hopelessly trying to engage in conversation with them. While effort is nice, I feel sorry for mowaten because he's trying the impossible.
so, don't do the same mistake.

and there is me. each day i steal couple of minutes from work, and some more time when i'm home and i make fools of them, i make them angry and i remind them that they are shit scared of our resistance.

Thumb jabalamel 20 October 2011, 23:44

than they go home and have nightmares.
next morning, they take some pills, they listen to encouraging speech from their boss and they come back to wage a futile war.

First of all I do not respond to dumb cowards who do not even have the credibility to give themselves a name (Qawmi boris). If you had any intelligence, you would have figured out that if I was a "Qawmi Suri" I would not have called Assad "lousy".. You and your fascist friends went to war with ALL Lebanese (Armenians, NLP, Marada, Edde, Muslims, Leftists, SSNP, Arab Nationalists). You Fascists even split and killed yourselves. The only people you did not fight were the Zionist Israelis.

Peace, I support any group that is opposed to Western Imperialism & racism (including Zionism). I do not care if they are Islamic, Christian or pagan. That does not mean I support Assad or the Shia Iranian Islamic state. I opposed the Russian invasion of Afghanistan in 1979. I support a Democratic secular state, not a vicious capitalist state like the USA where it is run by lobbyists.

Geha, you were right. The Aleppo rally was mentioned in Naharnet. I do not look at every Naharnet article. I guess the Rally was to big for Naharnet to ignore.
