No progress was made in the past hours in the efforts to find a solution to the objection to promote head of the Internal Security Forces Information Branch Col. Wissam al-Hassan, a security source told An Nahar daily on Sunday.

President Michel Suleiman withheld his signature from a decree to promote around 400 police officers in all security institutions because of the objection over al-Hassan’s promotion to brigadier general.

Prominent March 14 sources told the newspaper on Saturday that Suleiman froze the signature at the behest of Hizbullah and Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun.

An Nahar said Sunday that Interior Minister Marwan Charbel will issue a statement the next day explaining the details of the decree.

Charbel, who is scheduled to head a meeting to resolve the issue of the town of Lassa in Jbeil district on Tuesday, will propose a solution to President Michel Suleiman and Miqati, Ad-Diyar newspaper said.

Media reports have said that the decree has reportedly been approved by Charbel and Prime Minister Najib Miqati.

Wissam al-Hassan, the scholar of Johnny Abdo, is a suspect in the Hariri assassination and the case of the fake witnesses. At first he needs to be interviewed by a good investigator instead promoted.

It's about time to implement real changes and remove the monopolies of some thieves and despotes over the ISF!
Hope that the decree will not be signed, and this will be the 1st good thing that President Suleiman would have done!
