Moqbel Assures Army in Full Control of Borders
Defense Minister Samir Moqbel assured on Sunday that the army is in full control of the situation on the borders and inside Lebanon, in the wake of reports that terrorist acts could spread to the Lebanese arena.
“The army is in control of the situation whether at the borders or inside Lebanon's territories. The army is carrying out its duties and there is no fear of the Islamic State or of any other,” said Moqbel to al-Mustaqbal daily.
Reports have emerged lately stating fear that terrorist attacks could spread to Lebanon, as security forces thwarted on Saturday a plot to bomb an area in Beirut at the order of the Islamic State.
It was said that two Lebanese suspects were tasked by the IS in Syria's al-Qalamoun region to carry out the attack.
Earlier on Friday, the Lebanese army killed two jihadists after a group of gunmen tried to infiltrate the northeastern border town of Arsal.
The military said on its twitter account that it targeted a terrorist cell that was trying to enter the town from its outskirts.
Troops killed two jihadists and seized arms and ammunition from them, it said.
