Ennahda Party Leader: Islamists ‘Natural’ Choice to Lead Tunisia
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةThe leader of Tunisia's Islamist Ennahda party said Wednesday that its commanding lead in historic elections made it the "natural" choice to lead the country's next government.
"It is natural that the party which obtained the majority heads the government," Rached Ghannouchi said in a radio interview as provisional tallies showed Ennahda leading the count following Sunday's poll.
"The government will be put together as soon as possible, within no more than a month," Ghannouchi said, with final results yet to be published.
An early tally on Tuesday showed Ennahda with 28 of the 55 seats in nine domestic polling districts counted so far, including the key cities of Sousse and Sfax, for a new 217-member assembly that will rewrite the constitution and appoint a caretaker government.
Results released on Monday showed Ennahda taking half of the 18 seats reserved for expatriate assembly representatives in an early vote held abroad last week.
This meant Ennahda had 37 of the 73 seats accounted for so far.
Asked about the identity of the interim president, Ghannouchi said: "It will be a person who had militated against the dictatorship. Nothing has been decided yet. Discussions are continuing."
Massive numbers of voters turned out Sunday for Tunisia's first elections since the ouster of dictator Zine el Abidine Ben Ali in a popular uprising in January.
Another unaccountable "Hakim Bi Amr Ellah" is in the works, when will the Arabs wake up and embrace true secular democracy that is NOT a "western Im"b"erialist value" as the Iranian Baboon Khomeini puts it? it's simply the best unversally agreed upon governance system developed to date. As long as the Arabs keep letting the uneducated violent power hungry religious figures control their destiny they will never be able to cross over to the 21st Century (from the current 7th Century). The most educated and most democratic and tolerant should be in power not the most ruthless full of BS ignorant "head bangers", an incopetent leader that has no idea what good secular tolerant governance is always on a steady path to dictatorship. Unfortunately, Tunisians may have just replaced a secular dictatorship with a religious one. (The Deen Wa Duniyah BS all over again...) Tunis is now starting to resemble the early days of the Iranian Khomeini revolution in Iran....
Arabs are acting like a Cancer Patient that lives in denial and does not acknowledge he has the disease (and get early treatment) because he chooses to call it "The Flue" well guess what?? The Patient will die just the same.... The healing will start when the Arabs dare recognize that the 7th Century Ideology of Islam is incompatible with the modern world (that demands tolerance) we live in, and that only inclusive secular parliamentary democracies (which have proved universally to be viable) for the Historically diverse Middle East, and not Religious rule (that has proved its utter failure see Iran. Pakistan,.... and other fanatically religious countries. The free world will not nurse the Arabs forever they have to step up to the plate and take responsibility of their actions and destiny and not blame "others" (be them Israel or the West or the UFO's) for their self-inflicted misery, and join responsibly the world community and contribute to Science, Technology, and Ideas in general.
