Jumblat Refuses to Back Down on his Decision to Leave Party Leadership
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةProgressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat confirmed on Thursday his decision to step down from the leadership of his party, As Safir newspaper reported.
He stressed that he will not discuss the matter even if he was pressured by the party members to reconsider his position.
“I will join the party as an ordinary member after the next elections are held… which allows the rotation of power by ending the political heredity,” Jumblat told the daily.
He hinted that stepping down from the PSP’s leadership doesn’t mean he will resign from the political life.
Jumblat announced on Sunday he will lead his party one last time, saying he would not run in any future election.
He also said the party should get rid of the concept of inheritance of power. Jumblat was re-elected as head of the PSP by default given the absence of other candidates in the election.
He succeeded his father Kamal Jumblat and has been leading the party since 1977.
if his party really holds democratic elections and don t appoint his son as leader, then this party can be called progressist and set an example to all the lebanese parties!
That will be a first in Lebanon. Very unique situation. Now it is time for Aoun, Geagea, Berri, Hariri, Nasrallah, Gemayel, and all those who have been in power since I was born 40 years ago to move on.
if he is serious, its very bad news for our politicians, religious ones included.
it looks like the way gadhafi ended, frightened all the arab political class.
That's his position today, but a year from now, who knows? There is still plenty of room here to change his mind, and if hi did - no surprise.
Not the fist time...
It is a good thing he is leaving and may be he will set an example for others. Enough with political family inheritance! My next wish would be to separate religion from politics once and for all
hahaha :D
i just hope he's not the next Putin, leaving the presidency but still controlling the country :P
Well, I did not believe I will see this in my life time, good start. AND yes to separate religion from government
It is true that we Lebanese are unique people...Our abuser (at least one of them) decides he had enough and wants to leave and we beg him to keep his post and continue messing us up! Please don't leave...we need some more abuse!
i wish him a happy and healthy retirement, just leave us alone and take the rest of our shit politicians with you, and do it now please. Send them on holidays to Syria or IRAn, bye bye
