Terror Suspects Held in South, Bekaa as House of Shaker's Brother Raided
Two terror suspects were arrested Tuesday in the southern coastal cities of Sidon and Tyre as security forces raided the house of a brother of singer turned fugitive Islamist Fadel Shaker in a Sidon suburb.
“General Security intelligence agents raided a cafe in the Sidon area of al-Dalaa and arrested its owner R. S. on charges of having ties to terrorist groups,” state-run National News Agency reported.
The General Security also raided a house in Tyre and arrested Palestinian national A. A. “over his ties to a group working for the benefit of the Islamic State group,” NNA added.
Earlier in the day, an army intelligence force raided the house of Fadi Shmandar, a brother of Fadel Shaker, in the Sidon suburb of Abra.
Shmandar was not home at the time of the raid.
A pistol and ammunition were seized at the house, NNA said.
The agency noted that Nayef Q., a relative of fugitive Islamist cleric Ahmed al-Asir, lives in the same building.
In the evening, the army announced the arrest of Syrian national Mohammed Nassif in the Bekaa town of al-Labweh “on suspicion of belonging to a terrorist group operating in the outskirts of the town of Arsal.”
