Internal Security forces thwarted an attempt to smuggle drugs into Roumieh prison on Saturday.

A Lebanese citizen F.A., 27-year-old, tried to smuggle drugs into Roumieh prison bloc B, a statement issued by the ISF said.

The guards seized 4,513 pills with her.

The suspect testified that she was trying to smuggle drugs to the inmate S. A., and she was referred to the Drug Control bureau.

Roumieh, the oldest and largest of Lebanon's overcrowded prisons, has witnessed sporadic prison breaks in recent years, escalating riots over the past months and periodic attempts to sneak in drugs as inmates living in poor conditions demand better treatment.
