Jumblat: Arab Initiative is Syria’s Salvation

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat stated that Lebanon’s position at Saturday’s Arab League summit “should not have been the same as Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.”

He told the daily An Nahar in remarks published on Monday: “Lebanon was better off voicing its commitment to the Arab initiative on Syria.”

“This initiative represents Syria’s salvation,” he stressed.

The MP revealed that he will have a clear position on the Syrian crisis during his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa magazine, which will be published later on Monday.

On Saturday, Lebanon voted against a decision taken by the Arab foreign ministers to suspend Syria’s membership in the Arab League.

18 countries agreed to the decision, while Lebanon, Yemen and Syria voted against it and Iraq abstained.

The Arab League initiative on Syria calls on President Bashar Assad’s regime to implement reforms and halt the use of violence against anti-regime protests.

Syria and your ally Hizbollah are two sides to the same coin . They both butcher their own people , So why chose one and not the other ?

Ya walid.
Nice words, but we do not forget that Lebanon is deep down in crap because of your treason to your M14 allies...
We don't forget it, and the Druze community doesn't forget it!

Jumblat is a shrewd guy. he know when the winds blow his side and when they are behind his back. he is versatile and has been manipulating his position artfelly and successfully. There isn't a day that passes by without us being attracted to Jumblat's stances. It's certain that he's playing the game that is best for his religious sect but in doing so he's immensely helping Lebanon extricate itself from the clutches of the Syrians and ultimately the Iranians through their puppet Huzbullah. I do like Huzbullah as long as they do things that are purely lebanese and benefit Lebanon. Recently, though, their stances are purly iranian tilted which is not good for us the Lebanese.

Huzbullah is certainly a Lebanese power and this is the way they should be. Their arms should be directed at the borders not west beirut. Or better, should be diluted within the armed Lebanese forces. No one should have the right to arms except the armed forces.

God bless Lebanon from any harm.. amen.

the most worrying for jumblat is his community who is nor forgiving him.
for syria it is now the time for bashar to GO. THAT WILL LEAVE TIME FOR THE REGIME AFTER HIM to mend the ties between the syrians and save syria as a country. the more assad stays the bigger is the gap between syrians and especially its minorities.
