Catholic Patriarchs and Bishops Council urged the cabinet to commit to the international resolutions including the Special Tribunal for Lebanon and for the rise of a civil state based on citizenship and the national charter.

“The state should fortify Lebanon by committing to the international resolution including the STL for implementing justice,” the Catholic Patriarchs and Bishops Council said in its 45th annual meeting at Bkirki.

The statement urged the Lebanese to preserve the national unity and for dialogue between Christians and Muslims.

They called for a calm rhetoric and consensus among the Lebanese foes regarding the state’s sovereignty whereby the state controls the land away from any foreign intervention.

The statement added: “The youth are the hope of the church and the future of the Lebanese community.”

Concerning the turmoil in the Arab world, the Council of Patriarchs and Bishops urged the Arab countries to implement the necessary reforms.

The statement “rejected violence” and “war,” calling on Christians and Muslims to cooperate and launch dialogue for a better future in order to lay the foundations of truth, freedom, and justice.

The council hailed the Palestinian reconciliation agreement between Fatah and Hamas, urging the international community to “exert efforts to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on the basis of a comprehensive peace according to the international legitimacy.”

The problem has nothing to do with the commitment. The fact remains that the STL farce will not be funded from the coffers. Those who want can fund it out of their filthy pockets. End of story.
