Report: Hizbullah Won't Name Hariri for Premiership

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

Hizbullah will not name al-Mustaqbal Movement leader MP Saad Hariri for the post of premiership, al-Akhbar daily reported on Tuesday.

The daily pointed out to expectations and agreements that were reached before the presidential election that suggested assigning MP Hariri at the head of the government.

But all eyes are on the leadership of two main parliamentary blocs, Hizbullah and AMAL Movement bloc, which have not made any decision as yet with regard to assigning Hariri.

The daily said that all indicators so far show that Hizbullah will not name the Mustaqbal head.

On Monday Lebanon's parliamentarians elected founder of the Free Patriotic Movement MP Michel Aoun president of the republic after a longtime vacuum that has been plaguing Lebanon since May 2014 when the term of the president ended.

Aoun was tipped to become president after ex-PM Hariri formally endorsed his nomination earlier this month.

Reports say that Aoun is expected to nominate Hariri to return as prime minister, leading some to describe his support for the ex-general as a tit-for-tat.

Binding parliamentary consultations for the designation of a new premier have been scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, hours after Michel Aoun was elected as Lebanon's 13th president.

Earlier on Monday, Aoun signed a decree accepting the resignation of Prime Minister Tammam Salam's government and asking it to act in caretaker capacity until the formation of a new government.

Oh, now it does not violate the national pact and coexistence when Hezbollah does not name the "strongest" Sunni Leader with the largest Sunni parliamentary block.

hezbollah has already said they would not nominate hariri (understandably so after all that saad has done against them in the name of sauds). they also said however that they will not oppose him either, which basically means he will be PM, a bit like some parties did not vite for aoun and yet did not oppose his election.
not a big fan of hariri as everyone here knows, but if aoun and hariri can work together at the two highest official positions, and have a vast majority of the parliament with them, then hopefully some progress can finally be made in this country

Thumb .mowaten. 01 November 2016, 13:06

a bit like some parties did not *vote* for aoun

Thumb Mystic 01 November 2016, 13:21

The Saudis knows that they can not further their ambitions with Rifi, because Rifi is not popular outside of his Tripoli stronghold.
Also their dwindling influence can be seen and heard.

Hariri still have more influence than Rifi in the political arena, so the Saudis they made Hariri endorse Aoun as their last resort to gain some leverage on the Lebanese politics and institutions.

Thumb .mowaten. 01 November 2016, 13:40

Indeed Mystic, and I don't think any one ever had any serious expectations from rifi, not even his makers in saudi. Maybe at some point they hoped to use him as a scarecrow, some sort of "scary alternative" that would be propped up if their other demands are not met, but even a that he turned out to be a joke, nobody who is anybody follows, respects or fears him.
Finally they had to accept what they had spent years swearing would never happen, aoun president, and try to salvage what they could by squeezing saad into the package deal. All in all it's a good compromise, let's wait and see what turns out.

Thumb lubnani.masi7i 01 November 2016, 14:14

Hariri only smeared the so called resistance for a maximum of 11 years give or take so obviously he's a saudi stooge. Aoun smeared the so called resistance for more than 15 years and he was called a zionist jew stooge. Then after he became a hezballah tool, as al Ra2i called him when he was still bishop of jbeil, he is no longer a zionist jewish stooge. It's ironic how the self confessed iranian stooges, tools are the ones deciding who's the stooge.

Thumb ado.australia 01 November 2016, 12:48

Hariri will be PM... deal has been done. All he needs is 64 MPs.

Good luck Lebanon. Hopefully the government can actually be productive. Electricity, waste, water, security, gas drilling in med sea and new fair electoral law should be the agenda! Please let there be a cabinet that works towards this in an agreed policy!

Default-user-icon Resistance (Guest) 01 November 2016, 13:15

Ado none of those things you listed are important, the only important thing is the culture of the resistance.

Thumb ado.australia 01 November 2016, 13:58

This time with President Aoun, hopefully that sort of absolute corruption will be a thing of the past... we still have Berri and jumblatt to convince. Maybe the 1st act of the new cabinet is the establishment of an anti corruption watchdog that gives forgiveness and amnesty to past wrongs, so long as all future actions are under their jurisdiction. Hopefully that will be enough for it to pass as law!

Thumb lubnani.masi7i 01 November 2016, 14:11

Thumb ado.australia 01 November 2016, 14:45

Its not about sectarian corruption but all corruption and its telling that Berri is so against Aoun. This M8/M14 rubbish should be over. It should be about the style of governance! Working for the people or earning from the people.

Thumb lubnani.masi7i 01 November 2016, 15:00

Thumb ado.australia 01 November 2016, 15:31

True Basil took over in the last 5 years (with most of those years have been useless caretaker governments) and attempted to reduce the power shortage by hiring turkish floating power generators that have reduced the power shortage... did he also anticipate an extra 1.5 million refugees living in lebanon? Imagine what would be the daily power outage if didn't act? Action is what we need. W by cant we agree to drill the gas and oil in the med sea? Are we waiting for Israel to drain the whole basin first? Or are we waiting to agree politician payments? There is no border in an underwater gas basin! Israel has been pumping for the past 5 years while our "politicians" argue their commissions!

Default-user-icon 5200 (Guest) 01 November 2016, 15:49

In 1996 electricity was almost at 24/7 until Israel blew up the bsalim power generating station then in 1999 the joumhour power station. It was in retaliation for a Hezbollah katiousha barrage into northern Israel. The katiousha barrage coincided with Michel aoun's tv interview so next morning newspapers had the Hezbollah/Israel bombings as headlines rather that what amounts said. This was not the last time this was done.

They never named him ... ever, not even after Doha. The truth is Hezbollah have some sort of a religious fatwa against voting for Hariri. Even after the quartet alliance in 2005, Hezbollah's votes to Hariri were minimal.

What do you do when you live with a bunch of people who have no problem in scorching and razing the country to the ground? You can never play their game, because that is dangerous. And if you don't you are branded as weak. I think Hariri played the best card possible considering the circumstances. Now begins the hard work. When was it ever easy for him or his father?

How much money his construction companies made in Solidere company? This is the problem and I will for once give Saad Hariri a chance to prove that perception wrong... If he care less about profit of his companies and more about the building of the Lebanese republic then he could become a heroic Lebanese patriot! I know its a big naive hope but you never know...
