Airstrikes occurred at the Beirut airport when both the Italian and French Air Forces conducted raids on each other's facilities after reports emerged that French berets had been seized by Italian Special Fashion Operators in a bid to unseat the French monopoly on beret supply to the fledgeling Lebanese Army, which has been struggling along on berets produced in Germany. Italian berets have been mooted by some as an alternative to the French style. France's President, Francois-Christian Hollande, dismissed the allegations, saying, "It's not every man can wear a French beret, thank God."
