Syrian authorities on Monday arrested blogger Razan Ghazzawi at the border with Jordan as she headed to Amman to take part in a workshop on press freedom in the Arab world, activists said.

The Syrian Centre for Media and Free Expression called for the release of Ghazzawi, who was to represent the group at the forum, and for the authorities to halt "the repression of bloggers and journalists" in Syria.

Ghazzawi has since 2009 run her own blog, Razaniayat.

Social networking sites have played a key role in mobilizing the anti-regime protests which have swept Syria since mid-March. More than 4,000 people have been killed, according to the United Nations, in Syria's crackdown on dissent.

Foreign journalists are mostly banned from covering the unrest, leaving the international media dependent on reports from activists and videos on YouTube and other Internet sites, posted at the risk of arrest.

She should have been more careful. In these times where the Syrian regime is feeling that his end of imminent, people like ker shoudl exercise utmost care in order to prevent nabbings and maybe unnecessary killing. The regime in Syria is a bunch of killers. I hope she's released soon, albeit having some gut feelings that she might be harmed.

To this date, I can't fathom why Assad didn't initiate some form of reforms to appease his people and give them a breathing arena to express their views and improve their plight and future. In these days, people are not anymore able to live under totalitarian regimes. The regime could have from the nonset came out with a formula of democrato-Totalitarian scenario that could have been assimilative to the Syrian people and without blood shed. I really can't fathom the brain of Bashar? Is he really sane? If we assume he is, then does he think that after kiling thousands of his people he still can govern and go back to his old ways?
