A fire engulfed a sponge and cotton factory in the town of Mazraat Yashouh north of Beirut on Friday, without causing any casualties.

Voice of Lebanon radio station (93.3) said firefighters brought the blaze at Daou Sponge and Cotton Factory under control a few hours after its eruption around 8:00 am.

A short circuit was most probably the cause of the fire, it said.

In July, fire gutted Tourism Minister Fadi Abboud’s plastics factory, GPI, in Mazraat Yashouh.

The minister had attributed it to blazes that broke out in the UPS room.

It should be mandatory and imposed on every business and factory to install a fire fighting system. This is not acceptable anymore.
