March 14: Ban’s Visit to Lebanon a Reminder to End Arms Chaos

March 14 General Secretariat lauded on Wednesday U.N. Chief Ban Ki-moon’s scheduled visit to Lebanon as a reminder that implementing U.N. Security Council resolutions are important to end the arms chaos in the country.

It said that the visit will be an opportunity to remind the Lebanese, Arab and international communities that the “full implementation of U.N. Security Council resolutions on Lebanon will put an end to the arms chaos and the lack of control on the Lebanese-Syrian border.”

“We invite Hizbullah to give priority to the unity of the Lebanese people amid the challenges,” the general secretariat said in a statement after its weekly meeting.

It slammed the official mum over the incidents on the eastern border Bekaa town of Arsal and in the northern town of Wadi Khaled.

“We object the Lebanese government and the Higher Defense Council’s silence on developments,” continued the statement.

It warned of the continuous attempts to link Lebanon with the unrest in Syria by alleging the infiltration of al-Qaida members to the eastern border town of Arsal.

Defense Minister Fayez Ghosn’s statements on the alleged infiltration of al-Qaida members to Arsal under the guise of Syrian opposition activists stirred controversy in Lebanon.

The general secretariat praised the Syrian people, who are facing “a cruel violent campaign launched by the Syrian regime” despite the presence of Arab League monitors.

“The Arab League’s failure in its delicate mission will deprive it from playing major roles in resolving crises in the Arab world,” the statement added.

After weeks of stalling, Syria agreed last month to allow the deployment of observers as part of an Arab roadmap calling for the withdrawal of the military from cities and residential districts, a halt to violence against civilians and the release of detainees.

Concerning the wage boost, the March 14 forces slammed the cabinet’s failure to agree on resolving the livelihood crisis “as citizens are suffering from instability.”

The cabinet failed to issue a decree on wage hike after the Shura Council turned down three proposals made so far.
