The U.N. envoy to Libya denounced an air strike Monday on Tripoli's only functioning airport which he blamed on strongman Khalifa Haftar's forces.

"Ghassan Salame condemns the aerial attack today by LNA aircraft" against Mitiga airport east of the city, the envoy's office said in a statement, referring to Haftar's self-styled Libyan National Army.

"This attack constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law which prohibits attacks against civilian infrastructure."
