The Beirut MPs stressed on Wednesday that establishing an arms-free capital does not only include administrative area of the city, but Greater Beirut.

It said after a meeting at parliament: “After holding talks with the president, premier, and speaker over an arms-free capital, it is now time to hold talks with the various political powers.”

They explained: “An arms-free administrative Beirut cannot be separated from the Greater Beirut area, which includes various political forces, such as Hizbullah, AMAL, the Free Patriotic Movement, the Progressive Socialist Party, and the Tashnag party.”

“We are keen on addressing this issue with calm and patience as it is not an easy task,” they added.

“Establishing an arms-free capital is a positive step for the entire nation and we hope that our mission will be a success,” they stated.

The meeting at parliament included MPs Mohammed Qabbani, Atef Majdalani, Nadim Gemayel, Serge Toursarkissian, Michel Pharaon, Tammam Salam, Ammar Houri, Jean Oghassabian, Ghazi Youssef, and Nouhad Mashnouq.

Over the past few weeks, the Beirut MPs held separate talks with President Michel Suleiman, Prime Minister Najib Miqati, and Speaker Nabih Berri on eliminating the possession of arms in Beirut in order to establish an arms-free Beirut.

The MPs launched their mission after the numerous armed-clashes that had taken place in the capital over the past few years.

These MPs should start by cutting off their own arms from the shoulder so that their robbing stops and they can no longer use their hands to execute the filthy plots against Lebanon by its enemies.

Does "arms free" include the southern suburbs? If not you will disarm people who suffered the rape of Beirut bu the Hezz killers.

Good move and I hope it works, but I doubt it because the thugs (Hizb, Amal etc..) love their weapons and are nothing without them.

Everyone puts a smiling face on says yes. When it comes to putting the arms away they’ll give you ni2ayfe and say that all we got. And if you don’t believe they’ll prove it with a new 7 may. I tend to remember the type of weapons from back then don’t you?
