Berri Says No Problem with Forming ‘One-Sided’ Govt.
Speaker Nabih Berri said there is nothing wrong with forming a “one-sided” government if the PM-designate Hassan Diab fails to convince all political parties to participate in the cabinet he is about to form, media reports said on Tuesday.
The Speaker said Diab must “spare no effort to convince all political components to participate in the government, it is up to them if they choose not to,” visitors quoted Berri as saying.
Al-Mustaqbal Movement, the Lebanese Forces and the Progressive Socialist Party do not want a role in the cabinet.
“There is no problem” if the government is one-sided,” said Berri “many countries around the world form such governments,” he stated.
Diab, an engineering professor designated Thursday to form a desperately-needed government, plans to form a cabinet of “independent experts within four to six weeks.”
He is set to hold a series of talks with officials including the LF and al-Mustaqbal.
According to Berri’s visitors, the Speaker believes “there is no problem with forming a government of specialists and partisans.”
Diab held talks Saturday with parliamentary blocs on the formation of a government but met several challenges as key groups insisted that the cabinet must include established parties not just independent experts.
The complicated process of forming a government comes as Lebanon faces its worst economic crisis since the 1975-1990 civil war.

But in 2008, when the hezboolah and amal ministers resigned from Saniora cabinet, you paralyzed the country for 2 years and sent your armed militias on the streets coz you would not allow any shia that does not belong to the shia duo from participating in the then government.

Wisdom from the grandfather of corruption! Still living in cocoon! He and Hizb blocked government for years to avoid international tribunal eroding world confidence in our democracy. He and Hizb are a curse for the Shia as Aoun and FPM are a curse to the Christians. Time to clean the slate so people can live in dignity and restore Lebanon's glory as once we were the beacon of freedom, culture and democracy for the region.

This commenter with his four aliases is trying to draw our attention to the small-c constitution of Lebanon: a threat by the Christian minority to torpedo any government in which it does not receive out-sized privileges, such as half the seats in the parliament per Article 24: the so-called National Pact and Taef Accord. When we say "torpedo", we mean with rifles and tanks. Some of them Lebanese, some of them French, some, who knows?

Actually forming a one sided government is a problem according to the PM designate as is forming a government of all political parties. Diad will not form a government.

In Lebanon, there is everything wrong with "one sided governments". That means that only one party is authorized to steal and everyone else starves. We need a coalition government of national unity so that all of the parties are allowed to steal the government's money equally.
