U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly held talks on Tuesday with Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun on the political and security situation in Lebanon and the current situation in Syria.

She stressed after the meeting “U.S. concerns that developments in Syria not contribute to instability in Lebanon.”

She expressed the United States’ deep concern that the Syrian regime continues its violent oppression of the Syrian people, despite the presence of the Arab League monitoring mission.

Noting that the Lebanese parliament is currently considering legislation related to domestic abuse, Connelly raised the U.S. expectation that the Lebanese government will support the rights of women, including those related to domestic abuse, affirming that human rights are inherent and are neither bestowed nor earned.

She renewed the commitment of the United States to a stable, sovereign, and independent Lebanon.

Zzzz...The stereotypical fat American is 'concerned.' Boo hoo; someone, please, console the poor soul!

Obviously Mme Connelly is asking Aoun where to he wants his ONE WAY TICKET! to. In 1989, the previous time the cowardly Caporal thought himself clever enough to play regional politics, he bet on the Baathist regime in Iraq, lost and ran in his camouflaged nightgown and bonnet to the French embassy where, for the next hour and a half, they let him use their pot de chambre.

This time again fancying himself a regional powerhouse, he's betting on the Baathist regime in Syria. So far he's predicted the end of the Syrian revolution three times. Once, advertising how big an imbecile he was, he assured us that it will be over by the next week.

Today ambassador Connelly is making him a courtesy visit to show him some nice retirement property on the island of Elba and Saint Helena she also suggested he takes Jeeves Bassil with him.

Connelly expressed especial concern that Muslims could take over Lebanon via majority voting. She said, "We tried giving Arabs--I mean Muslims--the vote in Iraq and it just didn't work out. You just can't reason with these people. Our partner, Israel, is looking wiser and wiser, the older we USers get. I look forward to being the next Secretary of State."

The next time Jeffrey Feltman comes to town, ask him about Jews taking the stage as spokespeople for US pro-Israel policies, as a change from previous decades when non-Jews (like Connelley, Susan Rice, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama) would be the spokespeople. Does this change mean that pro-Israel Jews in the US don't trust non-Jews to speak for them anymore? Does Israel's power depend in part on its being able to depict US support as being broad-based, and not just "bought and paid for" (Tom Friedman on Bibi's ovations in Congress) by the Israel lobby?

An exception that proves the rule? Dennis Ross was "point-man" for pro-Israel policies in an earlier US Administration but his Jewishness was never mentioned. Perhaps the reason he has now faded is that he is not, in effect, Jewish enough for the Israel lobby anymore. For example, current US policy to the region apparently condemns democracy as a destabilizing force. This makes Israel, "the only democracy", even more of a contradiction in terms: but that is the test of loyalty now.
My prediction is that this is the desperate last stage of the anomaly of Israel as a US base in the Middle East. Where does that leave Lebanon?

chrisrushlau so you hate Christians and you hate Jews you feeeel that Muslims neeeed you to defend them and protect their rights. You are the great white hope defending Muslim because as everyone knows they need someone like you because they are such children. What was the percentage of Jews in the student revolts of the 60s and 70s, weren't those movements pro-Palestinian? I guess we should conclude that Jews are against Israel.

chrisrushlau now I remember you, hahaha you are the knowitall ignorant idiot who thought that the Shura Council was some kind of Sunni religious body. Keep up the good work, WOOOHAHAHAHA!!
