Grand Mufti Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Qabbani condemned on Saturday the attempts by some parties to destabilize the security in Lebanon.

“We demand an end to political assassinations in Lebanon,” Qabbani stressed in a statement.

He warned from the dangers of meddling with the security situation in the country that will “make us face what we have been avoiding.”

Qabbani stressed the need to provide “leaders with the necessary protection… to maintain their safety and security and safeguard the citizen’s livelihood.”

Internal Security Forces chief Ashraf Rifi confirmed on Saturday reports of a foiled assassination attempt against security officials, including head of the ISF’s Information Branch Col. Wissam al-Hassan who was the target of the foiled attempt.

According to the National News Agency, former Prime Minister Saad Hariri telephoned Qabbani who wished him in return a speedy recovery.

Last week, Hariri broke his left leg while skiing in the French Alps.

However, he left the Hospital on Saturday back to his residence in Paris.
