Judge Akiki Files New Charges against Geagea over Tayyouneh Case

State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Fadi Akiki has filed new charges against Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea over the Tayyouneh clashes file, after having obtained new information.

The LF said in a statement that the detainees’ lawyers had submitted earlier this month a request to recuse Akiki "but the latter started to evade being notified."

The statement claimed that Akiki had "illegally" filed from his home the new charges, as "he was intentionally absenting himself from the court to avoid receiving the recusal request."

The LF considered the charges to be politicized, in favor of Hizbullah and the Free Patriotic Movement who want to "take revenge on their political opponents."

In October, Geagea had been summoned to testify as a “witness” in the case of the Tayyouneh-Ain al-Remmaneh deadly incidents.

He said he will not testify in the case if Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah is not also summoned.
