France, KSA say they support Lebanese sovereignty, stability
France and Saudi Arabia stressed Friday, in a joint statement, the two countries' support for the sovereignty, security and stability of Lebanon.
French President Emmanuel Macron and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had talked over dinner Thursday about regional crises including the war in Yemen and Iran's nuclear program.
While U.S. President Joe Biden fist-bumped bin Salman in a gesture that was seized on by critics, Macron shook hands on the steps of the Elysee Palace as he welcomed the prince on Thursday.
Macron and MBS were joined by a senior Hizbullah official to ink a document calling on Lebanon to adopt one-person, one-vote, an end to Article 24's set-aside of half of the Lebanese legislature to Christians, "only when mature judgment says Lebanon is ready for it". Shia Muslims, making up the bulk of Hizbullah, are generally believed to make up more than half of the Lebanese population, although a census has not been done since the 1930's.
