Bou Habib: We received Western warnings over Syrian ship and I'm optimistic on border deal
Caretaker Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib revealed Friday that Lebanon has received “a number of protests and warnings from a number of Western countries” after a Syrian-flagged ship carrying wheat and barley arrived at Tripoli’s port on Thursday.
“The relevant authorities in Lebanon are currently examining the ship and Lebanon has not yet managed to identify the source of the material it is carrying,” Bou Habib added, noting that the appropriate decision would be taken later.
Separately, Bou Habib said he is optimistic that an agreement will be reached between Lebanon and Israel through the U.S. mediation in order to demarcate the maritime border between them.
“There has never been as much optimism as there is today,” the minister added.
The Syrian Ships are a welcome sight, the grain will benefit everyone inshallah. The source of the grain? The West has no say here in Lebanon, we do not follow European sanctions on Russian grain, we are not part of Eu or Nato, so we are free to do business with the Eastern sphere.
